Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans doesn’t lack for confidence.
Which is a good thing with the Seahawks coming to town on Sunday, and bringing along one the NFL’s best cornerbacks in Pro Bowler Richard Sherman.

While no one knows for sure exactly what the Seahawks’ defensive game plan will be, it is a safe bet he will be matched up with Evans more often than not.
Evans is up for the challenge.
“I play some of the best athletes in the world, going at it one-on-one,” Evans said on Wednesday standing in front of his locker. “That’s great. Hopefully he’ll match me. I’m a big fan of his and I think it will be a fun day.”
Head coach Dirk Koetter was asked about the potential matchup on Wednesday after practice.
“Yeah, he’s a big corner. Definitely proven as one of the top players in this league,” Koetter said. “It will be a big challenge for Mike, I know he’s probably looking forward to it.”
Quarterback Jameis Winston respects Sherman’s ability, but said Wednesday not to discount he and Evans’ chemistry and ability to hook up, no matter who’s doing the defending.
“You have to be aware of one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, but I like my guy. I like my guy in that matchup,” Winston said. “Mike is having an amazing year, but that is just trust. Sherman has been covering a lot of guys in his whole career. But at the end of the day he doesn’t have that connection that me and Mike have. So at the end of the day, he still has to defend us.”
Evans, who has 65 receptions for 916 yards and eight touchdowns this season, was just as complimentary of Winston, and noted his ability to allow receivers to make plays.
“It’s giving our other playmakers an opportunity to get one-on-one chances and I’ll take our guys over anybody,” Evans said. “Jameis has been doing a good job distributing the rock to everybody. We’re just playing good all-around football.”
Ultimately the game on Sunday is the Buccaneers versus the Seahawks, not Evans versus Sherman. The former Aggie star said he believes the Bucs are ready to compete with anyone.
“I think so. I think we’ve proven it and we’ve got to keep proving ourselves,” Evans said. “We got a tough win in Arrowhead against one of the best teams in the AFC and now we’ve got one of the best teams in the league in the past few years coming to our house. So we’ve got to just keep proving ourselves.”
