The Jaguars released running back Leonard Fournette on Monday, immediately raising questions about the possibility of whether the Bucs could land the former fourth overall pick from 2017.

Head coach Bruce Arians was asked about the possibility of signing Fournette in his post-practice press conference on Monday.

“We’ll wait and see,” Arians said. “He’s been a good player, we’ll just have to wait and see where he fits.”

In 15 games last season, Fournette ran for 1,152 yards on 265 carries – an average of 4.3 yards per carry – with three rushing touchdowns and also added 76 receptions for 522 receiving yards. When Fournette faced the Bucs’ top-ranked run defense in 2019, he totaled 38 yards on 14 carries.

Over his three years in the league, Fournette has only managed less than 1,000 rushing yards and 300 receiving yards in his injury-shortened 2018 season, when he played in just eight games.

The Bucs’ will likely keep four running backs active as the season begins, with Ronald Jones II, LeSean McCoy, Dare Ogunbowale and Ke’Shawn Vaughn all looking like the early favorites to stick. Should Tampa Bay bring in Fournette, it would likely be at the expense of third-round pick Vaughn, who could be a rare cut as a top 100 selection. But first the Bucs would have to create cap space for Fournette, which could be a challenge too.
