Following a tough loss that was full of mistakes in Week 1 against New Orleans, the Bucs bounced back with a big win over another divisional rival in the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Head coach Bruce Arians spoke following Tampa Bay’s win, touching on a strong performance from Tom Brady and how important it was for the Bucs’ defense to total four takeaways on the day.

(On the defensive turnovers)
“Turnovers come in bunches, they’re week-to-week. We got our hands on balls last week and didn’t catch them. I thought that defensively we set the whole tone, getting turnovers. I thought that we were a little leaky in our run defense but that was a big interception to start the second half and we gave it right back to them, let them back in the game, and then Carlton [Davis] had a great interception to ice this thing with Leonard [Fournette’s] run.”

(On Leonard Fournette and the run game)
“It’s nice to have a hell of a player with fresh legs in the fourth quarter. I thought that our guys did a good job of mixing the backs in, [LeSean McCoy] did a great job catching the ball and making first downs. I know he wants that one back that he dropped for a touchdown but he’ll make some more in the future. The running game, I thought that our line blocked well all day. And [Ronald Jones II], we fumbled that ball and we can’t have that on a handoff but overall, Leonard’s contribution was… as he keeps practicing and learning and doing some things, we’ll keep getting him more and more touches.”

(On Mike Evans)
“We’ve got to do that every week, we can never let Mike just sit still and be somewhere where everybody can double cover him. Tom did a great job of finding him, especially deep down the middle and again that was a good design by Byron [Leftwich] to set that play up with Mike in the middle.”

(On Brady’s bounce-back performance)
“I think he has a pretty good history of that and this game should have never gotten to as close as it did, we let them back in, but he played outstanding and his leadership on the sideline was great and he put us in the right play with a number of different audibles. He played really, really well.”

(On what Brady was doing on the sidelines)
“Without censorship you can’t talk about it.”

(On the performance of the offensive line)
“That took a lot of pride. Last week wasn’t some of their best. I thought that Donovan [Smith] hurt his knee and went back in there and it looked like he played pretty well against a good pass-rusher. All of those guys, the way that we ran the ball in the fourth quarter is what we’re looking for and they take a lot of pride in that. I thought that the tight ends and the offensive line blocked pretty well today.”

(On his concern about the dropped passes)
“It’s unusual. I think that at times we relaxed and we’re not good enough to relax, nobody in this league is good enough to relax and we talked about it at halftime. We cannot relax. We go out, the defense gives us a turnover and we give it right back. That’s the ball game when we should have put that thing away in the first five minutes of the third quarter.”

(On the drop from Cyril Grayson)
“That was a big one. Tom found him late and the wind was wicked coming across that sideline, it blew it across, and one thing about Cyril, he’s got great hands and that’s why he’s in there. It hit him in the head. That play would have been a huge play for us.”

(On the play from his safeties)
“They both tackled well and that was big in this ball game. Jordan [Whitehead] had a big interception, Antoine [Winfield Jr.] just continues to make play after play and he’s in the right position. He studies the game so he’s in the right position all of the time.”

(On the pass rush coming up big)
“I thought that we had a good rush, especially our interior guys. They were focused on our outside guys a little bit and our interior guys got great push up the middle. [Ndomukock] Suh, [Will] Gholston, I thought that Vita [Vea] got held a couple of times but nobody is throwing flags this year yet. I thought that the pass rush was good.”

(On how much this win resets things after a loss)
“We’re 1-1, it’s 16 games. Like I just told the guys, are we going to show up any different this week because we won versus last week when we lost? No. We’re going to come to work and get ready for the next one and play another really, really good football team on the road.”

(On if he expects Brady to get better and better as the season goes on)
“I don’t think there’s any doubt, it’s just going to take time. With having no preseason and all of those practices that we missed, we’re just growing day by day with Tom and the receivers and the entire offense. I think we’ll just get better and better. We’re nowhere near, in September, where I think we’ll be in November.”
