The Bucs absolutely tore it up offensively last week scoring 40 points and defeating the Los Angeles Chargers 40-17 in L.A. It was a statement win in many regards as the Bucs beat a quality team late in the season and put up big numbers against the league’s top scoring defense. There’s an argument to be made as well that it was the best game of the year for quarterback Baker Mayfield. He was rewarded for it as it was announced on Wednesday that he won the award for NFC Offensive Player Of The Week in Week 15.

Baker Mayfield was exceptional helping the Bucs win their fourth straight game and improving to an 8-6 record on the season. He went 22 of 27 for 288 yards and four passing touchdowns. Two of those went to future Hall of Famer Mike Evans while one went to Jalen McMillan and another was scored by Rachaad White.
The 135.5 passer rating that Baker Mayfield registered was the highest among all quarterbacks that week. That was also the case for his completion percentage of 81.5% and average yards per attempt with 10.7. He even mixed in 25 rushing yards on two attempts. Anything that Mayfield and the Bucs wanted to do in their win over the Chargers, they were able to. Tampa Bay did not punt the ball one time in the game.
It’s been a career year for Baker Mayfield, who has elevated his game after signing a three-year, $100 million deal in the offseason. His 32 touchdowns are already a career high and he’s also third in the league in that category as well as being fourth in passing yards with 3,617 on the year. There have been several times where he has played at an MVP level and his Week 15 performance was another example of it.
Baker Mayfield joins Bucs running backs Sean Tucker (Week 6) and Bucky Irving (Week 13) as Tampa Bay players that have won NFC Offensive Player Of The Week this season. He should have an exciting opportunity for an encore performance playing against the Cowboys in his home of state of Texas in Week 16 in primetime on Sunday Night Football.
