The Super Bowl week brings a media extravaganza to whichever city the big game is bestowed upon. That has been highlighted even more with it taking place in Las Vegas. What we learned on Wednesday may have answered the plans of quarterback Baker Mayfield and the Bucs this offseason.

It was a Bucs’ filled scene on the Kay Adams Show as Baker Mayfield made an appearance, as did former Buc Rob Gronkowski, who is a mainstay on the show. In between segments on a commercial break, Mayfield was having a conversation with Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young, the one-time Bucs signal-caller who was another guest on the show.

Typically in between commercials the microphones get shut off and aren’t turned back on until the show goes live again. But not this time around.

There was a hot mic situation that captured the conversation between Baker Mayfield and Steve Young that Bucs fans will want to hear.

Baker Mayfield Alludes To A Return With The Bucs

As Adams and Gronkowski had a side conversation, Young began asking Mayfield about his future plans this offseason, and based on Baker Mayfield’s response, it sounds like all roads lead to staying in Tampa.

“You’re in the right spot now,” Young began as Baker Mayfield replied with a “Yeah.”

It’s difficult to tell verbatim what the next couple of words were said as various conversations were going on, but Mayfield eventually says “Get some pieces back” in what has to be in reference to the Bucs’ hopeful attempt to re-sign wide receiver Mike Evans and some other important free agents such as safety Antoine Winfield Jr.

Young finishes that up with “Settle in there, make a career.”

One can infer that the context of the conversation that Mayfield and Young had is about coming back to the Bucs. What other team could they possibly be discussing in terms of “getting pieces” back if it’s a team that Mayfield hasn’t been on before?

All Signs Point To Baker Mayfield Re-Signing With The Bucs

The hot mic is not the only signal pointing to Baker Mayfield re-signing with the team on a new contract this offseason.

The notion that Mayfield wants the Bucs and the Bucs want Mayfield is probably the worst-kept secret around. It took new offensive coordinator Liam Coen less than two minutes into his inaugural press conference to discuss that a big reason why he took the role was for the potential chance to work with him.

It also helps that when Coen arrived at the AdventHealth Training Center, Mayfield was there to reunite with him. As Steve Young alluded to, Baker Mayfield has every chance to settle in with the Bucs and be the quarterback long-term. Should Tampa Bay bring back the pieces around him, he could build off his past season and really build something in Tampa Bay.
