The long awaited saga about Tom Brady’s return to practice could be over soon. After two weeks of wondering when Tom Brady would be back in Tampa, Todd Bowles gave an update on the situation one day after the Bucs preseason game against the Titans.
According to Bowles, Brady will be back early this week.
“Like I said a week and a half ago, I said he’ll be back this week,” Bowles said. “That hasn’t changed. We expect him back this week. It’ll be this week early.”
Brady was last seen with the Bucs on the first day of joint practices with the Dolphins. Following that day, Brady has not been around and Bowles said that it was a pre-planned that Brady would be out and taking some personal time. What that involves has been very speculated, but ultimately it is a private matter.
This has given the Bucs an opportunity to provide multiple reps to backups Blaine Gabbert and Kyle Trask. This included day two of the joint practice with the Dolphins and both joint practices against the Tennessee Titans this week. Gabbert has started both preseason games but Trask has gotten the majority of the snaps as the Bucs determine if he can be the quarterback of the future in a world where Brady is no longer their quarterback.
With only one preseason game remaining, Bowles was asked if Brady could play in the final game when the Bucs travel to play the Colts next Saturday. He was non committal on that determination.
“Not yet,” Bowles said. “We’ll see how practice goes and we’ll make those decisions at the end of the week.”
