Latest Bucs Headlines

With the NFL Combine coming up this week, the Bucs, along with the rest of the league, will turn their attention over to the NFL Draft. What’s next for Tampa Bay in an offseason already full of changes? Today, Pewter Report takes a look at the latest mock drafts for your favorite football team. Mock draft season is certainly in full swing.

Here are the latest Bucs mock drafts from national analysts, with their opinions on how Tampa Bay should approach its picks this year.

Bucs Pre-Combine Mock Draft Roundup

Natalie Miller – Draft Wire

Bucs’ First-Round Pick (Trade Up With Browns To 12th Pick): Oregon CB, Christian Gonzalez

“Tampa Bay recognizes they must get better in the secondary, and here they make a move to get an elite-level athlete with an exceptionally high ceiling in Gonzalez. He has the potential to be a No. 1, high-end corner in the league for a long time, and the Bucs make the move to try and develop him into just that.”

Bucs’ First-Round Pick: Iowa EDGE, Lukas Van Ness

“Without Tom Brady, it might be a different kind of season for the Buccaneers. Could they move up for a quarterback? It’s possible, though the free agent market offers a lot of options, and Kyle Trask is on the roster already. This could be a rebuilding year.

Shaquil Barrett should be returning from a torn Achilles, but the edge rush group could otherwise see a lot of turnover in free agency. Van Ness, meanwhile, never started a game at Iowa but managed back-to-back seasons with seven sacks. His length, quickness and power would be welcomed in Tampa Bay, where pressuring the QB is a big part of the team’s defensive identity.”

Bucs’ First-Round Pick (Trade Up With Falcons To 8th Pick): Kentucky QB, Will Levis

“Taken at No. 1 overall in a previous mid-January mock draft from Wilson, the Kentucky quarterback now comes off the board at No. 8 overall to the Buccaneers after a trade with Atlanta. Tampa Bay needs a quarterback following Brady’s departure. Levis, who is the only quarterback in Kentucky history to defeat rivals Louisville and Florida twice, went 17-7 as a starter over two seasons and ranks fourth all-time in touchdowns responsible for (54), fifth all-time in passing touchdowns (43), fifth in total offense (5,501 yards), and sixth in passing yards (5,232). At the upcoming combine, he’ll be battling Young and Strong for top billing.”

Bucs’ First-Round Pick: Georgia EDGE, Nolan Smith

“This is becoming a common selection for the Bucs in mock drafts, and it’s because they need to add speed to their pass-rush profile. Smith was a former No. 1 overall recruit for his athleticism and is one of the best sub-240-pound run defenders you’ll see.”

Bucs’ Second-Round Pick: Georgia TE, Darnell Washington

Daniel Jeremiah – NFL.com

Bucs’ First-Round Pick: Texas RB, Bijan Robinson

“The Bucs need to figure out what they’re going to do at quarterback in the wake of Tom Brady’s retirement, but Robinson will take pressure off whoever is under center.”

Bucs’ First-Round Pick: Georgia CB, Kelee Ringo

“There is no quarterback in sight worth taking for the Buccaneers in this NFL mock draft. So let’s build up the defense and make this roster as quarterback-ready as possible for the 2024 NFL Draft. Kelee Ringo could step into Jamel Dean’s role on the outside as a rookie with similar usage and body types—both are tall, long-limbed, and have explosive straight-line speed. Ringo can match up with bigger-framed wide receivers in man and operate in zone coverages well. Todd Bowles should love this new addition to his secondary.”

Ryan Wilson – CBS Sports

Bucs’ First-Round Pick (Trade Up With Falcons To 8th Pick): Kentucky QB, Will Levis

“Tom Brady has re-retired and the Bucs currently have Kyle Trask under contract … and that’s it. This would be a bold move, but if Tampa stays at No. 19, four QBs will be off the board. Levis, who definitely looks the part, was plagued by injuries and poor play all fall. That said, NFL teams love how he projects to the next level, but he’ll be a controversial talking point in the coming months.”

Seth Trachtman – Yard Barker

Bucs’ First-Round Pick: Iowa DE, Lukas Van Ness

“The Bucs need to get younger in all areas, including the defensive line. Van Ness has led Iowa’s elite defensive over the last two seasons, with a combined 13 tackles and 19 tackles for loss.”
