Bucs fans don’t need to wait until Oct. 27 to break out their favorite creamsicle throwback gear, as the team announced Saturday that for a second straight year, it’ll be holding a “Creamsicle Day” celebration at Armature Works in Tampa on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

The Creamsicle Day event – branded as “The Ultimate 70s Party” – will run from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and it’ll feature free roller skating, a chance to shop for exclusive Bucs gear and fireworks set to music from the 1970s. All fans who attend will receive a free mini pennant (while supplies last).
Tampa Bay announced last month that its throwback Bucco Bruce uniforms would be making a comeback for the second straight year. After the team wore the old orange and white for a Week 6 game against the Lions last year, they will break them out again for its Week 8 game against the Falcons on Oct. 27.
The Bucs celebrated Creamsicle Day on Aug. 14 last year as well, with that day’s training camp practice decked out in throwback signage ahead of an event at Armature Works. This year’s event in Downtown Tampa won’t be preceded by a creamsicle-themed practice, as the team will be in Jacksonville for joint practices with the Jaguars ahead of their second preseason game on Aug. 17.
Nonetheless, the Creamsicle Day party is sure to be a good kickoff for the “Sprit of ‘79” theme the Bucs are associating with this year’s throwback game.
Bucs Will Look To Reverse Their Fortunes In Throwback Games
The Bucs’ throwback uniforms can be divisive among the fan base, with plenty who love them and others who point to the team’s losing history – both in the 1970s and in more recent throwback games – as a reason to part ways with ol’ Bucco Bruce forever.
The orange and white Bucco Bruce uniforms weren’t overly kind to the Bucs back in the day, as the franchise lost a whole lot of games in them before redesigning their uniforms in the late-1990s and going with the red and pewter look.

There’s yet to be any scientific research done to truly link a team’s poor performance on the field to the uniforms they’re wearing, but it is true that Tampa Bay is on a losing streak in its throwback games. After beating the Packers when the creamsicles re-debuted in 2009, the Bucs lost to the Falcons, Panthers and Saints in their 2010, 2011 and 2012 throwback games, respectively.
Then, the NFL instituted a one-helmet rule that halted the team’s ability to wear its white Bucco Bruce helmets. That effectively ended any throwback games for a decade before the league abolished that one-helmet policy ahead of the 2022 season. So, the creamsicles were reborn.
Tampa Bay brought back its orange and white throwbacks in 2023, but once again lost in them to bring Bucco Bruce’s losing streak to four games. But from a business standpoint, the throwback game was a resounding success. There was an added level of hype for that Week 6 game and the team sold a whole lot of merchandise while garnering attention from a national audience. It was just a shame for Buccaneer fans – and the team itself, of course – that what was largely a celebratory day ended with a pretty lopsided loss.
So, with Raymond James Stadium packed out and decorated in orange and white for their Week 8 NFC South matchup with the Falcons, the Bucs will be looking to reverse a trend and rewrite history – with that beloved (though sometimes ridiculed) pirate as a victor.
