After two weeks of practice, the Bucs are getting a much needed reinforcement at cornerback. The team announced today they have activated veteran corner Carlton Davis from injured reserve.

Davis confirmed that the injury that landed him on IR was a torn quadricep. “I was just running full speed… and [my quad] just gave out on me,” said Davis. “That’s just how football is sometimes, man. You just never know. That’s why you gotta prepare the right way”
Tampa has had a revolving door at corner since Week 1 when Sean Murphy-Bunting suffered a dislocated elbow. Then Jamel Dean was knocked out of the Rams game and missed Week 4. Dean had been playing through injury and missed most of last week’s game against the Colts. Davis himself landed on IR after the Bucs’ matchup against the Patriots. To say this unit has been held together by glue and popsicle sticks would be an understatement.
That’s not taking anything away from the guys who have stepped in. They have performed to the best of their abilities. Davis, however, was playing like one of the best corners in the league before his injury. Through his first three games, his 25.2 pass rating allowed in zone coverage was the best of any cornerback in the league.
Even though Davis has been sidelined the past nine weeks, he isn’t concerned about conditioning.
“I feel good,” Davis said. “I feel really good. Probably the best I’ve felt in a while. I feel really confident coming back this week, so we’ll see. I’m good to go right now. 75 plays. Let’s do it.”
