The Bucs have added a couple of new coaches to Todd Bowles’ staff for 2023, specifically to work with new offensive coordinator Dave Canales. Tampa Bay has hired David Raih (pronounced “rye”) to be an offensive analyst and Jordan Somerville to be the assistant quarterbacks coach to work with Thad Lewis.

Here is information on both new coaches from the Bucs’ press release.

Raih brings 14 years of collegiate and professional experience to Tampa Bay after most recently serving as offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach at Vanderbilt in 2021. Previously, Raih spent seven years in the NFL as the wide receivers coach for the Arizona Cardinals (2019-20) and in a variety of roles for the Green Bay Packers (2014-18). Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins earned first team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in his lone season with Raih as his position coach in 2020.

In addition, while Raih was Davante Adams’ position coach in Green Bay in 2018, Adams broke out for his first 100-catch and 1,000-yard receiving season. Raih began his coaching career as a coaching intern at UCLA (2008-09) before accepting roles at Iowa (2010-12) and Texas Tech (2013). The Edina, Minnesota, native played quarterback at Iowa (1999-2003). He and his wife, Lauren, have one daughter, Goldie.

Somerville joins the Bucs from the University of Oregon where he spent the past season as an offensive analyst for an offense that ranked sixth among Power 5 programs in scrimmage yards per game (500.5) and 10th in points per game (38.8). With Somerville working alongside the quarterback unit, Oregon starter Bo Nix finished fourth among all Power 5 quarterbacks in passer rating (165.7), while also finishing top 10 in passing yards (3,593), passing yards per attempt (8.78) and passing touchdowns (29).

Prior to his season in Eugene, Somerville served as running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of New Mexico for two seasons (2020-21). He began his coaching career as the run game coordinator/offensive line coach at the American Leadership Academy (2016) in Queen Creek, Arizona, before spending three seasons at Arizona State as a student assistant (2017-18) and graduate assistant (2019). The Tempe, Arizona, native graduated from Arizona State in 2019.
