The Bucs made their first roster move of training camp on Saturday, signing wide receiver Cephus Johnson, who was released by the Minnesota Vikings. Johnson was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Southeastern Louisiana where he split time between quarterback and receiver. Johnson has good size at 6-foot-4, 224 pounds. Fox Sports’ Greg Auman broke the story.

Cephus Johnson primarily played quarterback both at South Alabama and Southeastern Louisiana. He completed 119-of-184 passes for 1,354 yards with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions in 2022 in his only season as starter for the Lions. Johnson, who has 4.57 speed, also ran for 488 yards on 89 carries and scored five touchdowns. But he’s very raw as a receiver with just three catches for 22 yards in his collegiate career.
Johnson threw for 900 yards and five touchdowns in eight games as a sophomore at South Alabama and also ran for four scores in 2019 for the Jaguars.
Outside of the 6-foot-5 Mike Evans, the Bucs receiving corps lacks a lot of height. The next tallest receivers – Chris Godwin, Russell Gage, Kade Warner and Ryan Miller are all 6-foot-1. The 6-foot-4 Cephus Johnson is now the second-tallest receiver in Tampa behind Evans.
