The Bucs’ offseason coaching search took another notable step forward as the team announced it has completed an interview with former Giants offensive coordinator and interim head coach, Mike Kafka, adding another intriguing name to Tampa Bay’s growing list of offensive-minded candidates. Greg Auman of Fox Sports broke the news on Monday that Kafka was meeting with the Bucs, then Tampa Bay announced it themselves on Tuesday saying they completed the virtual meeting.
We've completed a virtual interview with New York Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka for our OC position.

Is Kafka A Fit For The Bucs?
Kafka’s resume checks several boxes the Bucs are valuing. He has extensive experience working with quarterbacks, has been part of modern, adaptable offensive systems, and is viewed league-wide as a coach capable of tailoring an offense to personnel rather than forcing a rigid scheme.
That matters for a Bucs team still evaluating the best way to maximize Baker Mayfield while also ensuring the offense remains efficient, explosive, and sustainable week to week. Kafka’s background suggests a willingness to blend structure with creativity — an area where Tampa Bay’s offense often felt predictable last season.

Kafka was the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants last year. He assumed the interim head coach role after the Giants let go of head coach Brian Daboll after a 2-8 start to the season. Under Kafka’s leadership New York went 2-5 while their offense ranked 12th in EPA/play (0.045) and 23rd in success rate (41.8%), belying an explosive attack that struggled to stay ahead of the sticks consistently. Before he took over play calling the Giants offense was 15th in EPA/play (0.041) and 21st in success rate (43.5%).
Kafka joins a handful of other offensive minds who have now interviewed for the Bucs’ open offensive coordinator role. Just a couple of days ago the team brought in former Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson. In addition to those two, they have also spoken with former Titans head coach Brian Callahan, Cardinals quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork and Lions passing game coordinator David Shaw. Those interviews show they don’t have a preference on play calling experience but are looking for the brightest mind.

More interviews are to come as Todd Monken is meeting with Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Its evident that they have a type as they look to fix this team.
