When the Bucs have been as successful as they’ve been with reaching the postseason for five seasons in a row, winning the Super Bowl in that time frame and four straight division titles, other teams are going to take interest.

We’ve already seen Tampa Bay’s front office garner interest over in the AFC as the Jets have requested to interview Mike Greenberg, but Greenberg isn’t the only potential general manager candidate from Tampa Bay’s organization that is getting consideration.
According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Tennessee Titans plan to interview Bucs’ assistant general manager John Spytek. This isn’t the first time that Spytek has interviewed for a general manager position as he took a meeting with the Raiders and Vikings in the 2022 offseason.

The Titans had just fired their previous general manager Ran Carthon on Tuesday after two seasons in that role with the organization.
How Does This Impact The Bucs?
John Spytek has been an assistant general manager in Tampa Bay for two years but has been with the Bucs since 2016. As assistant general manager, Spytek oversees the college and professional scouting departments for the team. While Mike Greenberg runs the finances, Spytek is involved on the player personnel side.

Before being in Tampa, Spytek was a scout for the Denver Broncos for three seasons, winning a Super Bowl with them for the 2015 season. Spytek of course won another Super Bowl with the Bucs in 2020, so having two championships during his time in the NFL is a good discussion piece when talking to other teams.
The Bucs have had some really spectacular draft classes as of late and it looks like they’ve hit on another stellar group with the likes of Graham Barton, Jalen McMillan and Bucky Irving all make quick impacts. Over the years Spytek has helped out in instances such as trading for Jason Pierre-Paul, signing Shaq Barrett and bringing on Baker Mayfield in free agency.
Tampa Bay did a sensational job of turning their team from one of the oldest rosters in 2022 to one of the youngest just two years later in 2024. All along the way, they’ve continued to reach the postseason and go deep each time.
We’ll see what happens during these playoffs, but in the over last four appearances, the Bucs only failed to get out of the first round one time. Losing Spytek would be a considerable blow to the organization based on his ability to consistently find talent. But that’s what happens when one continues to field a successful team.
