Following Saturday night’s preseason finale, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles provided injury updates for several players, including Robert Hainsey. The Bucs center suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter of the 27-10 loss to the Colts in Indianapolis.

“Not yet,” Bowles said, when asked if he knew the severity of the injury. “We’ll get some X-rays taken I’m sure in the next two days. And we’ll find out.”

Bowles was asked if Tampa Bay was planning on signing another offensive lineman in the wake of Hainsey’s injury on Saturday night.

“We’ll wait and see what the X-rays say,” Bowles said. “I’m not going to jump to conclusions right now. I know he got nicked up. There’s no other way around playing offensive line. You can play your whole career and not get hit in the back of the leg. Or you can get hit in the back of the leg every week. We’ll see what the X-rays say and go from there.”

Hainsey was seen walking around the sidelines, putting plenty of pressure on his ankle, so it doesn’t appear to be a serious injury.

Bowles then commented on the health of some of the team’s wide receivers, including Mike Evans, who did make his preseason debut against the Colts. Evans, who has missed some practice time with a hamstring injury, played a few snaps with Tom Brady in the first quarter and was targeted once.

“He’s 100 [percent],” Bowles said.

Bowles also spoke about the injured hamstring of Russell Gage, who got hurt in the first joint practice with Miami two weeks ago.

“He’s getting there,” Bowles said. “We have a week of practice before we even start game week. So, we’ll see how he is this week.”

Bowles also chimed in on the status of wide receiver Chris Godwin, who has been making slow but steady progress in practice. The Bucs held Godwin out of the preseason as a precautionary measure as he recovers from ACL surgery.

“He’s been working out every day,” Bowles said. “He’s one of the hardest workers on the team. So, it’s going to be hard to try to hold him back if he’s healthy.”

Second-year outside linebacker Joe Tryon-Shoyinka was one of several Bucs held out of the preseason finale after playing last week in Tennessee. However, Tampa Bay’s head coach assured everyone that there’s no big injury for the 2021 first-round pick.

“He was just sore, so we held him out,” Bowles said.
