Add another prize to Tom Brady’s expanding trophy room. Brady was awarded as the FedEx Air Player Of The Week, as voted on by the fans, for his Week 1 performance in the Bucs’ 31-29 win over the Cowboys to kick off the season.
Brady completed 32 of 50 passes that Thursday night, going for 379 passing yards along with four touchdowns. His longest completion of the game was a 47-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Brown that came with 2:38 remaining in the second quarter. Other touchdown passes thrown by Brady is this game ended up going to Chris Godwin as well as two more to his old pal Rob Gronkowksi.
The other nominees for this week’s award also happened to be Brady’s last two opponents with quarterbacks Dak Prescott and Patrick Mahomes. Returning from a broken ankle, Prescott threw for 403 yards and three touchdowns in his debut, while Mahomes went for 337 yards and three touchdowns in a comeback victory. Brady just edged out Prescott in the voting, winning with his 38 percent to Presott’s 37. Mahomes finished in third by getting 25 percent of the vote.
In the last two games that Tom Brady has played dating back to the Super Bowl, he’s ended up with three awards. I’m sure you can guess which one he wanted the most.
Brady has won 13 FedEx Air Player Of The Week awards now. This is his third with the Bucs after winning two last season. He’s off to good start now already winning one, and it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he were able to win a couple more by the time we finish the season.
