As we near the 2025 NFL Draft, the Bucs continue to perform their due diligence on this year’s crop of secondary players. This time the team hosted Florida State cornerback Azareye’h Thomas. The young defensive back noted as much with a post to his Instagram account.

Thomas went to Niceville High School in the Florida panhandle before moving to Florida State for college in 2022. Because both schools are outside of a 50-mile radius from Tampa this is considered an official 30 visit for the team and not a local visit.
Thomas is the eighth cornerback, that Pewter Report knows of, that the team has hosted on an official 30 visit. Considering the injuries and lack of depth the team had at the position last year, this should come as no surprise. Pewter Report has now identified 19 of the team’s official 30 visitors.
Azareye’h Thomas Matches Traditional Profile Bucs Have Looked For In Past
Florida State’s Azareye’h Thomas matches a lot of the physical measurements the Bucs have looked for in perimeter corners in the past. At over 6-foot-1 and 197 pounds, Thomas matches the height and weight range of other Bucs draft picks Jamel Dean, Zyon McCollum, Sean Murphy-Bunting and Carlton Davis III.
Thomas also profiles as a press-man corner, much like the others were coming out of college. Tampa Bay has traditionally taken corners with this playstyle and converted them to a cover-3 heavy system at the NFL level.

One of the biggest questions with Thomas though, and a bit of a departure for the Bucs if they were to select him next week in the 2025 NFL Draft, is his speed, or lack thereof. Thomas ran one 4.58 40-yard dash at his pro day. Pro day clocks are typically player-friendly leading some to believe that Thomas is more of a 4.6-second guy. This is supported by his Zebra tracking at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, where he was one of the slowest accelerating defensive backs at the event.
Thomas’ best season was 2023 when he defended 10 passes, recorded five tackles for a loss and half a sack as part of an FSU defense that was one of the best in all of college football as they won the ACC Championship. This past year he only recorded one pass breakup but also added an interception, the second of his career, while adding another two tackles for a loss.
Thomas is currently seen as a Day 2 pick by most consensus draft boards.
