Latest Bucs Headlines

The Bucs come into Sunday night’s NFC Wild Card matchup with the Commanders healthier than they’ve been since the last time these two teams met, which was all the way back in Week 1.

The gameday inactives are out ahead of kickoff, and this time, it’s more about who isn’t listed than who is. Thankfully for Tampa Bay, there were no surprises after it was reported earlier Sunday that all questionable players were set to play. That means safeties Antoine Winfield Jr. and Mike Edwards, cornerback Jamel Dean, defensive lineman Logan Hall and tight end Cade Otton would all be returning to action for the Bucs.

Here is the full list of inactives for Tampa Bay ahead of Sunday night’s game against Washington:

The tough break here is for rookie tight end Devin Culp, who really stepped up over the last couple of weeks with Otton sidelined.

Culp caught three of his four targets for 52 yards in the Bucs’ Week 17 win over the Panthers before hauling in another two catches (on two targets) for 36 yards in the team’s Week 18 triumph over the Saints. Four of the rookie’s five catches over those two weeks went for first downs, which was a huge help for a Tampa Bay offense that was missing its No. 1 tight end in Otton.

But now, with Otton back from his knee injury, someone had to be the odd man out. The veteran TE1 is obviously going to get the highest share of snaps, while Payne Durham remains the TE2 in the offense. There wasn’t likely to be enough snaps for the rookie, but it’s still tough for him to miss out on his playoff debut after he played so well down the stretch.

Fellow rookie Tanner Knue, a wide receiver out of Eastern Michigan, was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday. Although he is inactive, he’ll get a playoff game check, which is a nice reward for his work on the practice squad. The other elevation, veteran linebacker Deion Jones, is active for the game.

Commanders Come Into Sunday’s Game vs. Bucs In Good Health

Washington also comes into play healthy, with all of its big names available for Sunday night’s Wild Card contest at Raymond James Stadium. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore will return to action, setting up a marquee matchup with Bucs star wide receiver Mike Evans. The two, of course, have gone to battle plenty of times over the course of their respective careers. Now, after getting traded from the Saints to the Commanders during the season, he will see Evans again.

Perhaps the most notable name on the Commanders’ inactives list is running back Chris Rodriguez Jr., who ran well during Austin Ekeler’s absence. But with Ekeler back, Brian Robinson Jr. leading the way and former Tampa Bay draft pick Jeremy McNichols all healthy, Rodriguez misses out.
