There weren’t many negatives from the Bucs 38-3 blowout of the Chicago Bears, but injuries again reared their ugly head. Starting cornerbacks Jamel Dean and Dee Delaney both left the game with injuries. The Bucs are already without Carlton Davis, Sean Murphy-Bunting and Richard Sherman at cornerback.
Delaney went down early in the second half with an ankle injury and did not return to the game. The injury occurred on Jordan Whitehead’s third quarter interception of Justin Fields. Delaney looking for a block, suffered a non-contact injury. He immediately went down clutching his ankle. Delaney had five tackles a pass deflection and an interception before his injury.
Dean’s injury happened on a big tackle for no gain on Bears running back Khalil Herbert. After the tackle, Dean immediately dropped his left shoulder before taking a knee. He left the field under his own power, but did not return. Before exiting the game, Dean had seven solo tackles including one for a loss.
“Don’t know how bad Dee’s ankle is,” Arians said after the game. “I think Jamel is fine. We’ll wait and see on his shoulder, but that was a heck of a tackle he made.”
Delaney was made available to the media after the game, a rarity for seriously injured players. He said his ankle is “good to go” and that he would “definitely” play in Week 8.
