By virtue of making the playoffs to end the 2022 season the Tampa Bay Bucs (8-9) will pick no higher than No. 19 in the 2023 NFL Draft. But the Bucs’ exact draft position will depend on when Tampa Bay’s postseason run ends. A loss at home to Dallas in the Wild Card round of the playoffs would mean that Tampa Bay would pick No. 19.
Yet if the Bucs beat the Cowboys and advance to the NFC Divisional round and lose they would have the No. 25 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, according to Tankathon.com. Should the Bucs advance and lose in the NFC Championship Game, Tampa Bay would have the No. 29 overall pick. If the Bucs make it to the Super Bowl, the team would have the 30th or 31st overall pick depending on the outcome of the championship game.
The Bucs’ 8-9 record could have some benefit when it comes to the seeding of teams for draft pick positioning. Tampa Bay had a chance to have a winning record to finish the season but lost, 30-17, in Atlanta in Week 18.
The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft only has 31 picks because Miami, which was supposed to pick at No. 22, had to forfeit its first-rounder as punishment by the NFL for tampering.
