For the second week in a row the Bucs have elevated a wide receiver from the practice squad. And for the second week in a row it’s been newcomer Cole Beasley.

Beasley was signed to the practice squad last week due to multiple injuries at the position and Mike Evans’ suspension against Green Bay. The 33-year old veteran had three catches for 12 yards in last Sunday’s 14-12 loss to the Packers, including a five-yard catch that picked up a first down on fourth down.

There is a good chance that Beasley is active once again, this time against Kansas City. The Bucs host the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football at Raymond James Stadium.

While Tampa Bay will see Evans return to action versus Kansas City and perhaps the return of wide receivers Julio Jones (knee) and Chris Godwin (hamstring), wide receiver Breshad Perriman will miss the Chiefs game. He is dealing with knee and hamstring injuries.

The Bucs could have a lineup that features Evans, Godwin, Jones, Beasley, Russell Gage and Jaelon Darden against Kansas City. If Beasley is active there is a good chance Scotty Miller won’t be versus the Chiefs.

Beasley can only be elevated for one more game before the Bucs must sign him to the active roster for him to see any more action on game days. Last year the league only allowed two practice squad elevations per player, but changed the rule to allow for three elevations per player in 2022.

Beasley Brings Experience To Bucs

The 5-foot-8, 174-pound Beasley has totaled 553 catches for 5,721 yards (10.4 avg.) and 34 touchdowns in his NFL career. Beasley has functioned primarily in both the slot and out wide in his career, offering Tampa Bay some versatility at the receiver position.

His best season came with the Bills in 2020 when he caught 82 passes for 967 yards (11.8 avg.) – both career highs – and four touchdowns. In his first season in Buffalo in 2019, Beasley caught 67 passes for 778 yards (11.6 avg.) and a career-high six touchdowns. Last year, Beasley also hauled in 82 receptions, but for just 693 (8.5 avg.) and one TD.
