Over the bye week, Bucs general manager Jason Licht joined NFL Network’s Peter Schrager on The Season With Peter Schrager and dived into plenty of topics – football and non-football related. Licht discussed the Bucs’ 3-1 start to the season led by head coach Todd Bowles and quarterback Baker Mayfield are coming together.
But another one of those topics was Licht’s most satisfying win during the Bucs’ Super Bowl run in 2020.
Which Team Was Jason Licht’s Favorite To Defeat In 2020 Playoffs?

Instead of seeing Jason Licht and Tom Brady doing a beer chug off after the Bucs won the Super Bowl, they celebrated hard during the boat parade. Although they beat the Chiefs at Raymond James Stadium to cap off the season, Licht sleeps at night knowing that to get there, the Bucs had to beat their most bitter foe – and did so on their turf.
“I would say just because – and I mean this with all due respect to the Saints – I hate them,” Licht said. “They’re just always such a tough team and especially going there, it’s such a tough place to win. They beat us twice that year and we went in and beat him and I just kind of got the sense that, I don’t think they were guaranteeing everybody that they were going to win, but they just had a kind of cockiness to them, which they should. They were a great team.”
After defeating New Orleans in what would be Drew Brees’ final NFL game, Licht was fired up and took to Twitter (now X) to rub it in afterward.

“When we beat them and I remember walking off the field, I pulled out my phone and I just tweeted, ‘We Dat,'” Licht said with a laugh. “And I was like, maybe I shouldn’t have done that, but then all of a sudden I started getting all the alerts and I was like, ‘This might come back to bite me.'”
Well, it did not come back to bite Licht or the team, as Tampa Bay backed up their talk en route to a Super Bowl win. This signifies just how much confidence the Bucs had with Bruce Arians and Tom Brady leading the way, and while they may be gone, their short time with the team led to a lot of great moments and memories.
Ones that Jason Licht will perhaps be able to reflect on more someday.
After getting swept by the Saints during the regular season in 2020 and 2021, the Bucs have started to find more success against them – much to Licht’s liking. Tampa Bay has since turned the tide and is now on a three-game winning streak over New Orleans after beating them 26-9 last week.
In fact, Licht was seen on the sidelines during the game chirping at Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore.
Many of the players on the Bucs and Saints have since taken their own feuds to another level. Whether it’s Cam Jordan dissing Tampa Bay or the matchups of Carlton Davis-Michael Thomas and Mike Evans-Marshon Lattimore that could be their own Pay Per View events, it is a game both teams always have circled on their respective calendars.
Who knows, maybe with more wins against them, Jason Licht will post ‘We Dat’ again and add more fuel to the fire.
