Chris Godwin is used in a versatile number of ways in the Bucs offense for the many things that he can do. One of his best traits is getting yards after the catch and heading up-field. Another new aspect that we learned is that he can throw a brutal stiff arm to opposing defenders.
The Bucs lost the Saints 36-27 on Sunday, but they can at least take this highlight away from it. On Tampa Bay’s second drive of the game, he caught a pass from Tom Brady and headed up the sideline for 25 yards. At the end, Godwin put a stiff arm on cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson that sent him flying as Godwin stepped out of bounds. He balled out the entire game, making eight receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown.
It was an emphatic way to set the tone as Godwin then scored just four plays later. Even in a loss, the stiff arm caught the attention of everyone around the league and earned him the scepter from Kyle Brandt during his “Angry Runs” segment on Good Morning Football.
“That is what you call the Godwin God smack!” Brandt said.
Quite frankly, that’s a nickname that could stick in Tampa.
You can watch the full video below. The Godwin portion starts right around the 3:18 time slot.
"We have a great history of sending this to Tampa, FL. The World Champs. And we do it again!"
