The Bucs started the 2022 season 1-0, beating the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, 19-3, in Dallas. The victory was the first for new Bucs head coach Todd Bowles, whose defense was the star of the show. Tampa Bay’s defense held Dallas to just 244 total yards, three points and only converting 3-of-15 (20 percent) attempts on third down.
After the game, Bowles addressed his team in the winning locker room. The Bucs social media team captured the footage and tweeted out Bowles’ victory speech.
“Hey, that’s a helluva job coming down here and beating a good football team, okay?” Bowles said. “The focus, the preparation – all three phases showed up. We still have got some things we need to work on, but all three phases showed up. Coach [Tom] Moore always told me – and this is an old war saying – bury the dead, clean your rifle, and march on.”
The Bucs players hooped and hollered after Bowles made that statement.

“We won the game, we’ll be happy on the plane, we’ll get some sleep, we’ll get some treatment, and we’ll watch the tape tomorrow and correct it,” Bowles continued. “We move on to the next game. We’ve got 16 more of these to go, but that’s a helluva job, guys.”

Bucs team captain and inside linebacker Devin White, who led the team with eight tackles and a pair of sacks, rallied the team after Bowles’ address.
“1-0!,” White yelled. “Hey, let’s go. I told y’all to come down here and be focused and we kick anybody’s ass, man. Hey, (only we) can stop us, and we ain’t stopping us.”
The Bucs will be marching on to face the Saints in New Orleans next week. The Saints rallied from a 16-point deficit on the road in Atlanta to beat the Falcons, 27-26, on Sunday. Will Lutz kicked the 51-yard game-winner to give New Orleans an early 1-0 lead in the NFC South.
The Bucs have not beaten the Saints in the regular season since the 2018 season opener, losing seven straight. Bowles is 0-6 against New Orleans since joining the team in 2019. And quarterback Tom Brady is 0-4 versus the Saints since arriving in Tampa Bay in 2020.
