The Bucs are hiring former West Virginia inside receivers coach Blaine Stewart to serve as a quality control coach on offense. Mike Casazza first reported the news.

New Mountaineers head coach Rich Rodriguez originally decided to retain Stewart on the coaching staff, but Stewart elected to leave for Tampa Bay instead.

Blaine Stewart has close ties with West Virginia University, as he is both a Morgantown High graduate and the son of former Mountaineers head football coach Bill Stewart. But he’ll now leave Morgantown behind to join Josh Grizzard’s staff in Tampa.

This isn’t Stewart’s first time in the NFL, though, as he spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2018-2022. In the first two seasons he spent with Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh, he worked with the offense as a quality control coach and assisted with special teams.

According to Casazza, he also coached the defensive scout team, built the weekly offensive installation plan and generated scouting reports on opponents.

In the years after that, Stewart served as the assistant wide receivers coach and spent time with the tight ends, with the Steelers not having a designated coach for that position group.

After his time with the Steelers, Stewart got his first collegiate coaching job in 2023, becoming the tight ends coach for the Mountaineers under former head coach Neal Brown. He then moved to inside receivers under Rodriguez, who hired Michael Nysewander from the Jacksonville State staff to coach tight ends.

Stewart played collegiately for James Madison from 2013-2015 and was a receiver and holder there before transferring to the University of Charleston in 2016. Stewart lettered twice at both schools. He earned his bachelor’s degree from James Madison and his master’s from Charleston.
