The Bucs continue to bring in cornerbacks to the team facility for official visits. Kentucky’s Maxwell Hairston recently posted a picture on his Instagram story from his visit to One Buccaneer Place.

Hairston also had a formal visit with the Bucs at the NFL Scouting Combine and he becomes one of two cornerbacks to have both a formal visit and an official 30 visit with Tampa Bay, joining East Carolina’s Shavon Revel Jr. Tampa Bay has now had seven cornerbacks in for official 30 visits – way more than any other position.

That’s not a surprise considering Tampa Bay wants to move on from oft-injured starter Jamel Dean either this year or next and will be selecting a starting-caliber cornerback in next week’s draft.

Maxwell Hairston Would Bring Speed To Bucs Secondary

Kentucky’s Maxwell Hairston isn’t the biggest cornerback at 5-foot-11, 183 pounds, but he was the fastest cornerback at the NFL Scouting Combine. Hairston blazed a time of 4.28 in the 40-yard dash, which made him the fastest player at this year’s Combine.

Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles prefers taller, longer cornerbacks on the outside, but he also likes speed. And that’s certainly Hairston’s calling card.

Hairston had five interceptions in 2023, including two pick-sixes, and six pass breakups. Those ball skills certainly caught the attention of Bowles, who has stated that he wants ballhawks this year – defensive players that can create takeaways. Tampa Bay only had seven interceptions last year with six of them coming from the secondary.

Hairston only had one interception last year, in addition to four pass breakups, but that was another pick-six, which gives him three in his Wildcats career. He was limited to just seven games last year due to a shoulder injury. Hairston is regarded as a second-round pick.
