The Bucs announced on Wednesday that they have designated inside linebacker K.J. Britt to return from injured reserve. The second-year linebacker will have a three week window to be activated to Tampa Bay’s roster. He can return as early as this Sunday’s game against the 49ers in Week 14.

Tampa Bay had an open roster spot after they waived Jaelon Darden on Tuesday.

Britt initially was sidelined in Week 7 when he sustained an ankle injury during the Bucs’ loss to the Panthers. He was put on injured reserve right after and had been out ever since. In recent weeks, Britt had been working out and running individually with trainers getting closer to a return.
Britt’s Role On The Bucs
In a special teams role Britt has made three tackles. The Bucs’ punt coverage team has struggled at times like last game when they allowed two big returns to the Saints in their win on Monday night, so Britt can provide an extra boost.
He hasn’t played a defensive snap yet this season as Lavonte David and Devin White play every snap on defense, but Britt should resume his role as the third inside linebacker on the depth chart. Last game, David briefly missed two plays on defense and Olakunle Fatukasi filled in.
Bucs Make More Roster Moves
Tampa Bay added two players to the practice squad after releasing tackle Dylan Cook and corner Ryan Smith during the Darden move. They signed tackle Grant Hermanns and safety Nolan Turner to the 16-player practice squad. Turner has played in four games for the Bucs this season.
