The list of coaches who have interviewed for the Bucs’ offensive coordinator position has not been the most inspiring so far, but that is changing with the latest interview that is set up. Fox Sports’ Greg Auman reported on Tuesday morning that Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken will be meeting with Tampa Bay to discuss the role on Wednesday. Rather than just a virtual interview, the difference here is that this one will be in-person.

As a veteran offensive mind who has already been in high demand, Monken is the most intriguing candidate linked to the post so far.

Todd Monken’s Has A History With The Bucs And QB Baker Mayfield

When the name Todd Monken comes up, it is easy to look back on his time with the Bucs. Monken was with the organization from 2016-2018 as the offensive coordinator under former head coach Dirk Koetter.

Those three years in Tampa Bay came after the 59-year-old served as the head coach at Southern Miss from 2013-2015. Despite his track record of success, that has been the only head coaching job he has held since starting as a graduate assistant at Grand Valley State back in 1989.

Monken has already interviewed for the Browns head coaching job this offseason after the team fired Kevin Stefanski.

During his first stint with Cleveland in 2019, Monken served as the offensive coordinator under Freddie Kitchens. He did not call plays that year, but he did work with Baker Mayfield, who was then in his second NFL season. Should he not land any head coaching jobs this offseason, his track record makes him a coveted name for any offensive coordinator opening.

That includes positions that might not even be open, as Monken is a name to watch wherever John Harbaugh lands his next head coaching job. Although still technically Baltimore’s offensive play-caller, he could pack his bags and head with Harbaugh or head elsewhere. Given his connections to Tampa Bay, he is a name to watch for the opening.

It should be noted that Monken did turn the Bucs’ offensive coordinator position down after it was offered to him in 2023. At the time, the Bucs were in a post-Tom Brady situation with head coach Todd Bowles entering the year on the hot seat. After Mayfield came in and put together a Pro Bowl year, the team has continued to be a playoff contender.

After falling short in 2025 though, would he return in a similar situation with Bowles’ job being on the line?

After Todd Monken’s stops with the Bucs and Browns, he then went back into the college ranks to be Georgia’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. While the Bulldogs are known as a college powerhouse, Monken’s offense helped build them into a National Champion. Although they had Carson Beck and JT Daniels at quarterback, they had their most success with walk-on Stetson Bennett under center. They went on to win National Championships in 2021 and 2022, boasting a top 10 offense in college football each season.

With nothing more to prove there, Monken turned down Tampa Bay and went on to become the Ravens’ offensive coordinator, a position he has held for the last three seasons. After a couple of down years by quarterback Lamar Jackson, he got right back on track leading a high-scoring offense, one that finished as the fourth highest-scoring in 2023 and third highest-scoring in 2024.

Jackson won his second Most Valuable Player award in 2024, when he threw for 4,172 yards and 41 touchdowns to just four interceptions. In addition to Monken coaxing the most out of the elite dual-threat quarterback, running back Derrick Henry has been better than ever in his early 30s.

2025 was a down year relative to those seasons, with the Ravens dipping to the 11th-best scoring offense. Jackson battled injuries and only played in 13 games, while the team failed to make the playoffs. That ended John Harbaugh’s tenure, but it has opened the door for Todd Monken to find his next coaching gig.

While Monken will be sought-after, the Bucs will bring him in for an interview and maybe this time can lure him back into town.
