The Bucs have most of the pieces of the puzzle with their quarterback situation, but not all of it. Kyle Trask and Baker Mayfield will have an open competition to be the starter, but will Jason Licht, Todd Bowles and the Bucs’ brass decide upon viewing is it a two-man race or a three-man race?

Tampa Bay has a number of holes to fill on their roster. Most notably that would be offensive tackle, edge rusher and now potentially inside linebacker given the Devin White situation, and yet they still have to fill out the quarterback room. Going through the draft is always an option, however, with other decisions to make it may be best for Licht to opt for an inexpensive veteran for depth purposes. Whatever they conclude, it won’t stop the Bucs from at least looking.
“It’s the toughest position to find,” Licht said during his pre-draft press conference on Thursday. “It’s the most important position on the team. You see teams that in consecutive years take them in (the) Top 10. We have an unknown in Kyle we have Baker, who’s had some great years. Now we’re hoping that he shows up here this year in the competition and we get the best out of one of them, or both of them.”
Jason Licht Is Open To Drafting A Quarterback
The quarterback room is appealing this year, but the top four of Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Anthony Richardson and Will Levis aren’t exactly projected to land at No. 19 when the Bucs are on the clock. Nothing has been ruled out, nor should it be. Licht has no reason to play his hand with two weeks before the draft. Though there’s a chance of it happening this draft, Licht’s open to taking a quarterback next year as well, especially with Mayfield on a one year contract and the unproven Trask having two years remaining.

“I would not be afraid to take another quarterback,” Licht said. “Because – might as well have another shot at it. Maybe not this year, but maybe in the future.”
The Bucs are putting in their due diligence and recently hosted Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker, Houston’s Clayton Tune and Kentucky’s Will Levis on Top 30 visits. Levis could be a first-round pick and Hooker’s placement may vary because of his injury, but he could be a second-rounder. Tune is considered to be a Day 3 selection.
Drafting a quarterback early would be an interesting move since Tampa Bay would essentially be hedging their bets on Trask and Mayfield while also missing out on a different position. If they love a certain player, though, sometimes you have to go with your gut feeling.
