Once again the Bucs were in a game that they had the potential of winning, but had one few too many mistakes to pull anything off. It was another game that the Bucs failed to capitalize on some chances, such as settling for a field goal after recovering a muffed punt deep in Ravens territory.

After dropping to 5-9 on the year and losing their second straight, Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter spoke about their loss to the Ravens by a score of 20-12. There was plenty of the rain in the game, and after a losing like that, it felt more like it was pouring for the Bucs.

(On how Jameis Winston played)
“I thought Jameis really threw the ball well in the first half. We didn’t do a very good job catching it, it wasn’t a throwing issue, it was a caching issue, and we didn’t have the ball for very much in the second half.”

(On how tough it was to see the Ravens run the ball for so much, especially in the second half)
“I thought our defense did a good job in the first half of containing their run game, but, similar to last week, our defense was just on the field too much in the second half. So, it ends up at 37 minutes of time of possession, you can sort of see that coming there in the second half, they are a running football team, but we got to hold the ball more on offense to keep our defense off the field.”

(On letting up all this yardage in two straight losses)
“Losing is not fun, losing is not fun, and when you get beat, you’re always going to look at the things that the team could of done better in all phases, including coaching. It’s not fun at all, it’s frustrating or whatever you want to call it, but it’s not fun.”

(On defending Lamar Jackson)
“Well he makes you play 11 on 11 football instead of 11 on 10. We had him wrapped up a couple of other times and he squirted out there and was able to extend plays. They’re on a nice run with him at quarterback and with that defense, they’re going to be a tough team to beat.”

(On the running play with Peyton Barber on third and one later in the game)
“Yeah, so third and one, we were in four down as soon as we crossed the 50, we knew we were in four down territory. We were moving the ball fine, we got third and one there and we had two different mental errors, we had two different blocking errors on the same play. I mean that was ridiculous that Peyton had a free runner on him right there, we had two guys miss assignments. So, instead of converting on third and one, we’re going for it on fourth and three, whatever it was, fourth and three, fourth and four, and we thought we had a good play up and we didn’t make it.”

(On how much it hurt to not convert touchdowns on drives so close to the end zone, like on the punt recovery)
“Yeah we knew we needed to get at least 21 points today, and we didn’t do it, we had our chances to do it and we didn’t. I thought that was a tough call on the PI (pass interference) that they gave Mike (Evans) down there, we did have a chance to overcome it. We had our chances down there, we can only look at the things we weren’t able to do, and we got down there enough times, but you got to be able to get in the end zone.”

(On if there was something that the Ravens defense was doing in the red zone that they weren’t expecting, and if Todd Monken was calling the plays)
“Yeah, he was, and no, they didn’t do anything that we didn’t expect. They’ve got a pretty vast package of a vast array of coverages that they play in the red zone, a lot of different combination man coverages, but nothing that we hadn’t seen before.”

(On how much the weather had a play in the Bucs drops)
“I’m sure the weather had something to do with it. But, we don’t usually have drops on balls, like I said, Jameis was right on the money there, we had three drops, three on offense and a dropped interception, right off the bat. You got to be able to catch it.”

(On how well Lavonte David did today)
“Lavonte was fantastic today. He was double digit tackles, two sacks, calling the defense, Lavonte was fantastic.”

(On the long pass play to Mike Evans)
“That was a scramble play, that was an awesome play by Jameis. You know, Jameis, we actually had a combination on one side and then Jameis kind of in a scramble situation. To throw it down the field and be that accurate, I’m going back to what I said in the very first question I think you asked me there, in the first half, I don’t think you could have asked Jameis to throw the ball any more accurately then he did.”

(On if this still feels like a team that struggles to play complete football games)
“Yeah, we definitely did that today. Every game, you got to play good enough to win those games. The last two weeks, it’s been the same story the last two weeks, the offense, I think we were oh for three on third down in the second half and we couldn’t sustain. Our defense has to be on the field too long, and our defense with our depletion at linebacker, it’s tough to hold up against a team that runs the football like that.”

(On if he thinks this team is more talented than the other team he’s had in a losing season)
“Yeah we have enough talent. There’s more than one factor that goes into losing a football game, but, everybody in the NFL has talented teams, we’re not lacking for talent.”

(On what he thought of Vita Vea’s game)
“I thought next to Lavonte, he’s probably the guy that just stood out for me watching the game on the sideline, the next most. Vita has really come on these last handful of games, and shown what he’s capable of.”

(On what his message to the locker room is after this team won’t be in the playoffs again or even have a winning record)
“Well, everybody in there is a pro, and we’re all paid to do a job. You got to finish it out.”
