Coming off the heels of a 55-point explosion by the offense in Los Angeles, the Bucs have a chance to claim first place in the NFC South when they play at the Saints on Sunday.

One man who should receive some credit for the Bucs’ offensive outburst is offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, who spoke with the media on Thursday on the Bucs’ latest game and their next opponent at New Orleans.

Here is a full transcript from Leftwich’s press conference.

On being able to answer with scores every time the Rams got closer
“That’s kind of our job. Our job is, you can’t really control what’s really happening in the game, you can just control the next play. We just keep trying to execute at a high level whatever the situation was and we felt as though if we can just continuously do that every play, we can live with the score that comes with that.”

On the team fighting back after Jameis Winston’s interception
“I kind of expect that of the guys, this is what they’ve shown throughout OTAs, throughout training camp. You guys just have an opportunity to see it on a Sunday, I see the work that these guys put in and the way they approach the game and how they want to be better. These guys work their tail off for moments like that, it was a good moment, it was a good win on Sunday but now we’re off to the New Orleans Saints.”

On how happy was with the offensive line from last game
“We all know that front, that was one of the better fronts in the game but I really like where we’re at offensively from an offensive line standpoint. We’ve been doing a heck of a job of getting a hat on hat and protecting Jameis the way that we need to protect Jameis, so those guys throughout the year have really been doing a good job of what they did last Sunday.”

On how difficult of a challenge the Saints defense is
“You go from really good front to another really good front who have really good players. We’ll respect that, we understand what they have from a defensive standpoint, it’s always a tough out, every Sunday it’s a tough out for every position group, we do understand how good their front seven is and we’ll give those guys their due respect.”

On if he saw anything different from Ronald Jones last game playing in a stadium he’s very comfortable with
“I joked with him all week, we knew he was going back into a stadium that he was playing college ball at. This kid’s just been really getting better every day, every week, he’s getting better. He’s approaching the game the right way, He’s attacking things that we’re asking him to attack so he can become a better football player and as a coach that’s all you can respect. He’s attacking the game of football the way he should attack the game of football. You like to see that.”

On how much Chris Godwin and Mike Evans have been able to compliment each other
“Well it all goes hand in hand. Mike’s seeing a lot of the doubles so Chris is getting the one-on-one matchups. These guys are just making plays, like I said they’re not doing nothing on Sunday’s that they don’t do every day, that I haven’t seen them do throughout OTAs and training camp, it’s just the rest of the world getting the opportunity to see these guys execute at a high level.”

On if Jameis Winston is starting to scratch the surface with what he’s capable of
“I don’t know. I know he’s getting better and he’s working on it. He’s working on it everyday and that’s all we can ask. You don’t want to have this up and down flow, you guys see the touchdowns, so now you guys recognize it, but like I said, he’s another guy that’s been getting better right in front of you guys’ eyes every single day and it sometimes it takes games like this for people to see it. But for him personally, we’re a 2-2 football team, we’re a .500 football team that’s just trying to get better. We just got to continuously get better, we got the first quarter of the season done, we got a long way to go before we start thinking of that nature. So we got to go day in and day out, play in and play out doing what we need to do to put ourselves in the best position for success, and that’s what our thought process is.”

On Alex Cappa coming from Humboldt State to blocking against the likes of Aaron Donald
“I don’t even know where that is. That’ don’t matter, we don’t care how you get here, we’re going to accept good football players, we like that way Capp came in and worked. We don’t care what schoool what you went to, what round you went to if you were a free agent, we appreciate the guys that come into work, put their hand in the pile and try to help us get better. He’s been doing that since day one, I don’t care what school a guy really go to, I like the way he’s playing though.”

On if he’s confident in some of the other receivers if Breshad Perriman can’t play
“They’re in a good place. All our guys are ready to play, we have no young guys anymore, that’s what I’m preaching to them. Four games into this thing, there ain’t no such things rookies anymore. These guys got a lot of reps in what they’re asking to do, so I don’t see it that way, I see it as the next man has an opportunity to play, you come in next man up, try to play s good as he can and give us his best effort. We understand what they can and can’t do from a personal standpoint, they’re attributes, what they can contribute to us, I have an understanding of that so I just want guys to be them best selves. Just come out here, get on the grass, and be ready to play good football.”

On the team playing without worrying
“We’re going to play, we’re going to play. It’s the game of football, you’re trying to win every game, every second, every minute, every play when you play the game on this level. Why not? Why wouldn’t you? This is the wrong time at this level of football to get scared or nervous when you’ve been dreaming you’re whole life to get to this point. A lot of these guys dreamed this stuff for 20 years so they’re just living out their dreams.”
