The 2025 Pro Bowl Games is a time for the NFL’s best players to enjoy the fruits of their labor throughout a long season.

A time to relax and be with family and friends and play some flag football.

For Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans, it also was a time to consider his future plans and how many more years he has left in the league. Evans shared his thoughts about Josh Grizzard being promoted to offensive coordinator, but he also had a revealing comment about how many more years – and potential Pro Bowl selections – he has in him.

Mike Evans: “Most Likely I’ll Be Retired By 2028”

It’s a day no Bucs fan wants to come.

The day Mike Evans hangs them up.

It’s inevitable, and when it happens, Evans will eventually be immortalized in Canton, Ohio as an NFL Hall of Famer. Talking with the media during Saturday afternoon’s Pro Bowl Games practice, the best offensive player in team history wants to explore other ways of playing the game of football, such as the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, which will mark the debut of flag football.

By then, the veteran wide receiver will likely be done playing.

“You know, this is good practice for me for the Olympics,” Evans said. “Most likely, I’ll be retired by 2028. ‘How many years is that?’ Three years, I don’t know. If I am retired, I’d definitely like to play in the Olympics.”

How Much More Does Bucs WR Mike Evans Have To Prove In NFL?

The 31-year-old wide receiver knows he has more football behind him than ahead. After next season it could become a year-by-year situation of whether Mike Evans will continue his playing career, much like it has been for inside linebacker Lavonte David.

This is a new and surprising development, especially because Evans has yet to show a dropoff in his play. He hit 1,000 receiving yards for the 11th straight season in 2024, doing so in the team’s regular-season finale after playing 14 games. With 74 receptions for 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns, the elite production remains.

Should M1K3 live up to his moniker and get 1,000 receiving yards for a 12th straight year to hold the record over Jerry Rice, there may not be much more left to accomplish in his mind. He has already solidified his status as one of this generation’s best wideouts, with his 105 touchdown receptions leading all active players.

Playing another couple of years would bump him up the reception and receiving yards leaderboards, but otherwise, he has been the definition of consistency at the position, earned plenty of money through the contracts he has signed, and will have a lasting legacy among the greatest Buccaneers of all time. Not to mention, winning a Super Bowl ring with Tom Brady.

What Mike Evans’ comment should say to Bucs fans is that they should enjoy however many years he has left. After turning down a Pro Bowl invite last year, Evans might recognize that he will not be attending many more. The last time he could be on a field playing might not even be in the NFL, but rather him going for gold in the 2028 Olympics.
