The Bucs have begun their search for a new offensive coordinator after head coach Todd Bowles fired Josh Grizzard after just one season. Now Bowles and general manager Jason Licht are engaged in what has become an annual occurrence each January – the search for a new offensive coordinator.

Tampa Bay announced that the team interviewed former Tennessee Titans head coach and play-caller Brian Callahan on Friday, and according to a report by Tampa Bay Times reporter Rick Stroud, the Bucs will be interviewing former Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson.

Stroud reported the news on X on Friday.

Robinson was the Falcons offensive coordinator under Raheem Morris during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Atlanta had the league’s 13th-ranked (22.9 ppg) scoring offense in 2024, but the unit fell to 24th (20.8 ppg) this past season as the Falcons went 8-9 in back-to-back seasons.

Atlanta ranked sixth (369.8 avg.) in total yards in 2024, but regressed to 14th (333 avg.) in 2025, perhaps due to quarterback Michael Penix Jr. tearing his ACL and the team forced to turn to 37-year old backup Kirk Cousins. The Falcons passing attack ranked fifth (239.3 avg.) in 2024, but fell to 19th (207.2 avg.) last season, in part due to missing star receiver Drake London for several games due to injury.

Atlanta’s rushing attack has always been strong due to the 1-2 punch of Pro Bowler Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier. The Falcons ranked 10th (125.8 avg.) in rushing in 2024 and eighth (130.5 avg.) in rushing last season.

Like former Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen, Robinson has roots in Sean McVay’s Los Angeles Rams offense. Robinson spent five seasons with McVay, elevating from the Rams assistant quarterbacks coach to passing game coordinator/QB coach before calling plays for the first time in Atlanta in 2024. Robinson was the Rams quarterbacks coach when Baker Mayfield was in L.A. for the end of the 2022 season.

The Bucs planned to interview Robinson for their offensive coordinator vacancy in 2024, but he took the job in Atlanta before meeting with Tampa Bay. The Bucs ultimately went with Coen, who helped produce a top 5 offense in Tampa Bay in terms of scoring offense and rushing yardage.

Robinson and the Falcons went 3-1 vs. the Bucs over the past two seasons. Atlanta’s quarterbacks combined for 12 touchdown passes and just one interception, while averaging 29 points per game and averaging 444 total yards vs. Tampa Bay’s defense.

Tampa Bay is beginning its offensive coordinator search with experienced play-callers. With Bowles facing a make-or-break 2026 season after finishing 8-9 in 2025 and missing the playoffs after losing the NFC South title to Carolina, the Bucs are probably wise to avoid hiring a first-time play-caller if they can avoid it. Dave Canales and Grizzard were first-time play-callers. Coen had only called plays in handful of Rams games in the 2022 season, but did have two years of play-calling experience in 2021 and 2023 in the SEC at Kentucky.

Among the candidates that the Bucs are expected to pursue an interview with over the coming week include former Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, who coached wide receivers in Tampa Bay from 2016-17 and was the offensive coordinator and play-caller for the Bucs in 2018, and former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, who called plays in Miami.

Bucs Have Cast A Wide Net In Recent Offensive Coordinator Searches

If you’re reading this, you’ll undoubtedly be aware of the fact that the Bucs are no strangers to the process of searching for an offensive coordinator, as this is their fourth search in four years. Whoever ends up getting the job to replace Josh Grizzard will be Todd Bowles’ fifth offensive coordinator in five seasons as the team’s head coach.

In each of the last three searches, Bowles and the Bucs’ brass cast a wide net.

After Byron Leftwich was fired following the 2022 season, Tampa Bay interviewed 10 candidates for his replacement, including Dave Canales, the eventual choice. Among the others who interviewed were, then-49ers pass game coordinator Klint Kubiak, Vikings receivers coach Keenan McCardell, Giants quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney, Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, then-Saints quarterbacks coach Ronald Curry, then-Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, Lions running backs coach Scottie Montgomery, then-Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken and Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher.

Canales parlayed his one year as the Bucs’ offensive coordinator into a head coaching job with the Panthers, setting up another long search for Licht, Bowles and Co.

The team ultimately settled on Liam Coen, but also interviewed former Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, then-Lions wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El, former Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, then-Lions tight ends coach and pass game coordinator Tanner Engstrand, then-Bucs quarterbacks coach Thad Lewis, then-Bucs tight ends coach John Van Dam and then-Rams pass game specialist Jake Peetz.

Also during that cycle, Tampa Bay was planning to interview then-Rams quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator Zac Robinson, former Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and former Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey. However, all three eventually took coordinator jobs elsewhere (Robinson/Falcons, Moore/Eagles, Dorsey/Browns) before interviewing with the Bucs.

After Coen left them to become the Jaguars’ head coach last January, the Bucs’ third coordinator search in three years was much shorter. They interviewed five external candidates – Chargers pass game coordinator Marcus Brady, then-Vikings assistant offensive coordinator/assistant quarterbacks coach Grant Udinski, Rams offensive assistant/pass game specialist Nate Scheelhaase, then-Rams tight ends coach/pass game coordinator Nick Caley and Rams quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone – before conducting an internal interview with Josh Grizzard, who served the pass game coordinator in 2024 under Coen.

Grizzard ended up being promoted to the offensive coordinator role in an effort to maintain some continuity with Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneer offense. But after a second-half slide and an 8-9 finish to the 2025 season, Grizzard became one of the fall guys as Bowles kept his job and is now looking to right the ship.
