Latest Bucs Headlines

Senior Bowl Week is upon us, which means Bucs personnel – as well as the whole Pewter Report staff – will be headed to Mobile, Alabama, for a full week of practices. While there are a few other college all-star games, the Senior Bowl has the tag “The Draft Starts in Mobile” for a reason. In other words, draft season is truly kicking off this week.

As was the case in both 2023 and 2024, the Bucs will be spending Senior Bowl week split between what’s happening in Mobile and their offensive coordinator search. Like they did when they eventually replaced Byron Leftwich with Dave Canales and Canales with Liam Coen, they’ll be looking for Coen’s replacement while some personnel is locked in on prospect evaluations.

As for the latter part of those responsibilities, let’s take a look at some of the names who could be of interest for the Bucs both this week in Mobile and when the NFL Draft comes around on the last weekend of April. As a reminder, the Bucs have the No. 19 overall pick in the 2025 Draft.

In our latest Mock Draft Roundup, players who have accepted Senior Bowl invites will have asterisks around their names.

Round 1, Pick 19: Georgia EDGE Jalon Walker

“The temptation to double down along the interior of the offensive line for a second consecutive year with Tyler Booker still on the board is tempting, but adding a dynamic athlete with alignment and position versatility like Georgia’s Jalon Walker is simply too valuable to pass up.

The emergence of Calijah Kancey and YaYa Diaby alongside Vita Vea has given this unit optimism for improving their pass rush in the coming years, but a prospect like Walker — with elite explosiveness, exceptional bend, combined with some hand technique nuance — could elevate this defense back to its former Super Bowl form.”

Pro Football Network’s Matthew Cannata – 7-Round (Jan. 25)

Round 1, Pick 19: Georgia EDGE Jalon Walker

“Opinions on Jalon Walker vary greatly from his draft stock to the position he should play at the NFL level. He’s displayed flashes of pass-rushing brilliance, and despite his sawed-off frame, Walker has adequate length to be a full-time pass rusher. However, he’s currently more of a “master of none,” which is common for defenders playing multiple positions without specificity.

“Walker is inexperienced in coverage, and much of his pass-rush productivity stems from spying quarterbacks and using his outstanding closing speed to bring them to the turf when they attempt to leak away from the pocket. His length also helps him take on climbing offensive linemen, and he has a natural feel for playmaking.

“However, without adequate examples as a coverage player, it’s hard to love Walker’s entire profile.”

Round 2, Pick 53: *Iowa State CB Darien Porter*

“Following a strong season, Darien Porter has emerged as a potential Day 2 selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. His stock has risen significantly throughout 2024, showcasing explosive speed, effective route recognition, anticipation, and the length needed to thrive as a press corner at the next level.

“After starting his first two college seasons as a wide receiver, Porter has seamlessly transitioned to defensive back. His developmental trajectory and potential upside suggest that a team will take a chance on one of the conference’s top cornerbacks.”

Round 3, Pick 101: *Oklahoma State RB Ollie Gordon II*

“Few CFB players have been more underwhelming relative to expectations than Ollie Gordon II in 2024. After creating explosive run after explosive run in 2023, the Oklahoma State Cowboys’ back struggled to find any space to create this season. Additionally, he looks a tad heavier and conspicuously less explosive than a season ago.

“Gordon still possesses incredibly impressive eyes and the feet to manipulate second-level defenders, but his lackluster contact balance makes him a boom-or-bust runner.”

Round 4, Pick 120: Ohio State CB Jordan Hancock

Round 5, Pick 158: Western Michigan C Jacob Gideon

Round 7, Pick 237: Kentucky LB Jamon Dumas-Johnson

Round 1, Pick 19: *Texas A&M EDGE Nic Scourton*

“The Buccaneers need to add more juice to the outside of their pass-rushing unit. They get a versatile, uniquely talented rusher in Nic Scourton.”

Alabama Ilb Jihaad Campbell

Round 1, Pick 19: Alabama LB Jihaad Campbell

“They rave about Campbell’s leadership and versatility at Alabama. He’s a unique player because of his size and length as an off-ball linebacker. With Lavonte David and K.J. Britt ticketed for free agency, the Bucs fill a need.”

CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards (Jan. 26)

Round 1, Pick 19: South Carolina S Nick Emmanwori

“Tampa Bay made it back to the playoffs but fell short of its ultimate goal to win the Super Bowl. During that run, the safeties were unable to stay healthy. Nick Emmanwori fills out the secondary opposite Antoine Winfield Jr.”

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. (Jan. 22)

Round 1, Pick 19: South Carolina S Nick Emmanwori

“Emmanwori has closed the gap with Starks in the safety rankings, and I considered him five spots earlier for the Colts. Emmanwori is going to be a red-hot prospect throughout the predraft process. He has a big frame at 6-3, 227 pounds, but he moves like a smaller defensive back. He picked off four passes this season (two pick-sixes), and he could fit in nicely for the Buccaneers’ defense. Emmanwori next to Antoine Winfield Jr. could do some damage to opposing passing attacks.”

SB Nation’s J.P. Acosta (Jan. 22)

Marshall Edge Mike Green

Round 1, Pick 19: Marshall EDGE Mike Green

“Green is another speed and burst pass rusher who can win with spins and ghost moves. Tampa is going to be in a huge need for pass rush depth this offseason, and Green gives them a guy that can win without additional help.”
