A familiar face joined the Bucs today for joint practices with the Titans. Outside linebacker Carl Nassib, fresh off re-signing with the team last night, was present and participating in team drills. Following the practice, Nassib spoke with the media about returning to the Bucs.
Nassib maintained throughout the time he spoke that he is excited to return to the team where he enjoyed his most successful seasons at the NFL level. When asked how long he had been in discussions with the team about returning Nassib said it was just a couple of days. He was asked if he was surprised that it took this long for him to get signed and Carl responded that he wasn’t.
“No, I really wasn’t surprised,” Nassib said. “I was being selective, and this was a great opportunity that I couldn’t pass up.”
While Nassib played with the Bucs in 2018 and 2019, he said he will still need to dust off the cobwebs when it comes to the playbook.
“Yeah. Today was my first day back in this scheme and some things are still up there, but it’s going to take me a little while to get back into the speed of this game, for sure.”
Speaking of the playbook, Nassib’s reunion with the Bucs has been such a whirlwind he hasn’t even had a chance to get a playbook yet. When asked if there was anything new in the playbook that he was unfamiliar with Nassib said: “I haven’t gotten the playbook yet. I’ve only been out here for [a day]. I’ll let you know.”
Playing With Familiar Faces
Now that he is back with the Bucs, Nassib is getting a chance to play with some former teammates. Based off his first day back he has been impressed with what he has seen. He had this to say about the opportunity to play with Shaq Barrett again.
“Absolutely, Shaq was killing it today,” Nassib said. “He’s an All-Pro guy. I’m just going to keep learning from him and the chance to work with him is pretty cool.”
Nassib also had a positive take on Anthony Nelson. He played with Nelson in 2019 when he was a rookie: “He’s definitely flashing some really good athleticism, which I’m really excited to keep seeing. He’s developing into an awesome player. I’m really excited to work with him again. I have nothing but good things to say about Nelly.”
