Josh Rosen is about to play for his third team in four years after signing with the Bucs’ practice squad. It was the first time in his career, though, where Rosen got to pick where he played. And despite offers to be on the 53-man roster on other team’s, Rosen always wanted the Bucs.
“It feels a little bit like home with a couple familiar faces from Arizona,” Rosen said. “It’s nice to come take a breath and get to really learn some football from some of the best to ever do it.
Rosen has familiarity with offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, who was one of his coaches when he was drafted by the Cardinals in 2018. But when he talks about practicing with some of the best to ever do it, he’s talking about working with Bruce Arians and Tom Brady.
“It’s a privilege,” Rosen said. “I got to pick to come here and there’s no other place that I would rather sort of lay that foundation than with Tom and BA and Byron and everyone here. I’ve really enjoyed it so far.”
The turning point in Rosen’s career came last season with the Dolphins after he was benched in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick. He talked about how he wasn’t retaining information the right way until he started studying those around him.

“That was like a big look in the mirror sort of situation for me,” Rosen said. “I’m literally playing behind probably one of the smartest quarterbacks to ever do it and you’re not absorbing information like you should. I was like, I’m just gonna see what this dude does, I’m gonna mirror his schedule, I’m gonna try and take every note that I possibly can and I started seeing the game very differently and going up to the line of scrimmage with a much better plan than I ever have before and it started showing in practice. Film started to make a lot more sense to me, that’s why I thought I made strides in practice at the end of last year.”
It was a learning moment like this that makes him most excited to learn from Brady. The time spent together in the quarterback room will be extremely valuable to the 23-year old.
“What I’m looking forward to most are the Mondays,” Rosen said. “Coming in after a game, hearing his [Brady’s] explanation and why he went to certain areas and sort of understanding a little bit on how he sees the game. That’s probably what I’m really looking forward to the most.”
