Tierney joins Broncos passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Klint Kubiak, Vikings wide receivers coach Keenan McCardell, Jaguars passing game coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher and Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken on the list of candidates for Tampa Bay. The Bucs fired Byron Leftwich on Jan. 19 after a 2023 season that saw them average just 18.4 points per game.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo first reported last Friday that the Bucs would soon interview Tierney, whose season with the Giants came to a crushing end at the hands of the Eagles in the NFC Divisional Round. Finding a new coordinator is at the forefront of the Bucs’ plans right now, especially as they wait to hear what the future holds for quarterback Tom Brady.
The 36-year-old Tierney oversaw the drastic improvement of New York quarterback Daniel Jones this season. It was his first season with the Giants, coming over when the team hired Brian Daboll last offseason. Tierney previously worked under Daboll as an offensive assistant and assistant quarterbacks coach for four years in Buffalo.
Prior to his time with the Bills, Tierney spent two seasons as an offensive analyst at Alabama. He was on the Crimson Tide staff that won the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in the 2017 season.
The Giants scored 21.5 points per game in 2022, an improvement from their 15.2 points per game average in the previous season. Jones took a major leap forward under Tierney this season, throwing for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns to just five interceptions while rushing for 708 yards and another seven touchdowns. New York finished 9-7-1 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2016. The team also won its first playoff game since 2011, beating the No. 2 seed Vikings on the road.
