The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have never scored 50 points or more in a single game until they beat the Los Angeles Rams, 55-40, on Sunday to improve to 2-2. Ironically, it was a defensive player, former Rams defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, who scored the final points to push the team over 50 points on a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

The key to the win was Tampa Bay scoring seven touchdowns and just two field goals while racking up 468 yards. The seven touchdowns tied a franchise record, while Matt Gay has joined former Bucs kicker Chandler Catanzaro as the only kicker in team history to attempt nine kicks in a single game. Gay became the first kicker in franchise history to be perfect on nine or more kicks in a game.

After Gay missed a 34-yard field goal that cost Tampa Bay a win against the Giants the week before, his field goals appeared to be on opposite ends of the spectrum against the Rams. Gay managed to hit one from as far away as 58 yards and as close as from 21 yards. His 58-yarder tied for the third-longest field goal in Bucs history.

One of the driving forces behind Tampa Bay’s scoring outburst is the fact that Chris Godwin, a third-year wide receiver, hit new personal bests in three different categories. Godwin ended up with 12 receptions for 172 yards and two touchdowns. His 12 catches tied him for the most ever by a wide receiver in a single game in Tampa Bay history and he was only one short of breaking the record of 13 by running backs James Wilder and Earnest Graham. Sites such as NetBet sports betting are certainly going to be tipping the odds in the future because the Bucs look to be having a breakout season, with plenty more moments like this to come.

The Bucs lost to the Giants in Week 3 because they only managed to get one touchdown out of five trips to the opposing red zone. Against the Rams, they got five touchdowns out of six tries, which was a huge improvement for the team to say the least. Of course, this is a huge turning point for Tampa Bay and it has also given the team a lot of confidence.

The Bucs got rushing touchdowns from Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones, and tight end Cam Brate caught his first touchdown of the year, a 13-yarder, on the first play of the fourth quarter. That gave the Bucs a 38-20 lead, but quarterback Jameis Winston, who threw four touchdown passes, wasn’t done yet.

Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans also scored in the fourth quarter on a 67-yard touchdown pass from Winston, which was the longest play for the Bucs offensive this year. It was the 44th career touchdown catch for Evans.

So, could all of this mean that there are bigger and better things in store for the Bucs? Are there going to be even more plays like this to come? Only time will tell, but all in all, it looks like good things are on the horizon as Winston, Evans, Godwin and the rest of Tampa Bay’s offense is clicking in Bruce Arians.
