When it rains it pours for the Bucs. On the first play of the second quarter against the Arizona Cardinals, Bucs left tackle Josh Wells went down with a lower body injury. Wells, who is in his eighth year out of James Madison, had to be carted off the field after seemingly injuring his knee while pass blocking. Wells was quickly ruled out after limping to the X-Ray room.
Wells was playing due to the injury of starting left tackle Donovan Smith who was inactive for the game due to foot injury. Wells played last week against the Bengals in place of right tackle Tristan Wirfs who had been dealing with an ankle sprain.
With the injury to Wells the Bucs will now rely on backup Brandon Walton who had limited playing time early in the season against mainly New Orleans and Green Bay after a similar rash of injuries at that position. Walton held up decently at that time, posting Pro Football Focus grades of 59.6 and 63.8 respectively in those games.
With Wirfs still less than 100% dealing with his ankle injury the Bucs are now very thin at tackle and I would think rookie offensive lineman Luke Goedeke may be next in line with any further injuries.
