The Bucs are placing another defensive tackle on injured reserve this year. Just a few weeks after losing starting defensive tackle Calijah Kancey to a torn pectoral muscle for the season in an injury that occurred at Houston in Week 2, Tampa Bay lost practice squad defensive tackle Jayson Jones a torn biceps during Thursday's practice.
Fox Sports' Greg Auman broke the news on Saturday on X.
Tough break for Bucs' depth, as practice squad DL Jayson Jones, a potential elevation for Sunday vs. Eagles, tore his biceps Thursday and will require season-ending surgery. Big presence vs. run at 6-6, 335 pounds.

The Buccaneers added Jones to the practice squad after the start of the season to provide some depth along the Tampa Bay defensive line. There was a chance that Jones could have been a practice squad elevation with the groin injury to starter Logan Hall.
Will Bucs Elevate Desmond Watson vs. Eagles?
The Buccaneers signed 400-pound plus defensive tackle Desmond Watson to their practice squad earlier this week after he met the team's weight loss requirement and he practiced with the team for the first time on Wednesday. After Wednesday's practice, Todd Bowles was asked whether or not Watson could be elevated against Philadelphia this week to possibly help stop the "tush push" on Sunday, but the head coach said no.
Will that change with Jayson Jones' season-ending biceps injury?

Before this week, Watson hasn't practiced with the Buccaneers since the mandatory mini-camp. He was placed on the NFI (non-football illness) list due to being overweight and never practiced with the team during training camp. Watson's listed weight on the roster was 449 pounds after he was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Florida after the draft.
Tampa Bay has five healthy defensive tackles on the roster heading into Sunday's game versus Philadelphia. Vita Vea, Greg Gaines are Elijah Roberts available, in addition to newly acquired Elijah Simpson and C.J. Brewer, who was signed to the active roster from the practice squad this week. Starter Logan Hall suffered a groin injury early against the Jets last Sunday and didn't return. The injury is believed to be mild in nature and Hall is listed as questionable for the Eagles game.
If Hall can't go the Buccaneers will likely elevate another defensive tackle from the practice squad. With Jones out for the year the candidates for that elevation are Watson, Adam Gostsis, who was elevated for Week 1, and rookie Nash Hutmacher. Unless Bowles changes his mind about Watson, Gostsis seems the most likely defensive tackle to be elevated for the Philadelphia game.
