The hits keep on coming for the Bucs following their loss to the 49ers in week 11. Tampa Bay is already in jeopardy of losing linebackers Lavonte David and Devin White and cornerbacks Jamel Dean and Carlton Davis III for their Week 12 game against the Indianapolis Colts to injury.

You can add exciting rookie receiver Rakim Jarrett to that list. Jarrett was placed on the Bucs’ injured reserve list the team announced in a press release.

Jarrett, an undrafted free agent, has showed glimpses of positive play as a reserve receiver for the Bucs this year. He has played 115 offensive snaps with four catches for 60 yards on seven targets through the first 10 games of their season.

Jarrett had his most exciting play of the season against the 49ers when he caught a 41-yard seam route to help set up a touchdown in the Bucs 27-14. The rookie from Maryland suffered a quadriceps injury in Sunday’s loss at San Francisco.

Moving him to injured reserve means Jarrett will miss at least the next four games. That would mean he is eligible to return for their Week 16 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Bucs Will Look Internally To Replace Jarrett

With only five receivers on the roster this will mean Tampa Bay likely makes a corresponding move to sign a receiver. That will most likely come from an internal source rather than a street free agent.

The team currently has four receivers on their practice squad. Veteran David Moore has 78 career catches for 1,163 yards and 13 touchdowns. Second-year receiver Raleigh Webb played 12 games on special teams between New England and Baltimore last year.

Beyond those two are a pair of rookies in Ryan Miller and Cephus Johnson. Miller is someone the Bucs are very high on and Moore played four years in Seattle and has some familiarity with offensive coordinator Dave Canales. Those two would be the most likely to replace Jarrett on the active roster.

This roster move follows the flurry of transactions the team made yesterday including releasing tight end David Wells to sign linebacker J.J. Russell. Up until this point the Bucs Week 5 bye week had not had a large impact on the team in terms of injuries. It appears that is now starting to change.
