The Bucs can’t seem to make it through a game this season without several injuries. The latest player to fall victim was cornerback Jamel Dean. Dean left the game early in Tampa’s 30-17 victory with a head injury. He was ruled out quickly after being evaluated with a concussion.

It’s the third concussion suffered by a player in the secondary this season. Antoine Winfield Jr. missed two games in the league’s concussion protocol and Dee Delaney missed a game as well. Dean has been having a heck of a season as the one constant in a defense backfield decimated by injuries. He will have to go through the league’s concussion protocol and pass tests before he is cleared to return to football action.
On the Falcons final drive of the game, cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting also exited the game. Murphy-Bunting was in on a collision, suffering what looked like a head or neck injury. Defensive tackle Will Gholston also limped off the field, putting no weight on his right leg. When asked about their injuries, Arians was still in the dark.
“I have no idea what happened to either of them yet,” Arians said.
Last week, it looked like the Bucs would have their entire secondary intact for the first time all season, thanks to the return of Carlton Davis. But on Friday it was discovered that Jordan Whitehead suffered a calf injury and would not play. With safety Mike Edwards suspended, the Bucs were short at safety on Sunday. Andrew Adams and Ross Cockrell filled in next to Antoine Winfield Jr.
Ronald Jones was also knocked out of the game with what was called an illness.
If Dean and Murphy-Bunting can’t play next Sunday, it’ll be tough sledding for the Bucs secondary. The Bills high-octane passing attack looms in huge showdown next week. The Bucs will need all their horses in the secondary to be successful.
