Jason Pierre-Paul has been a very important figure for the Bucs defense ever since he came to Tampa Bay and that will continue after Pierre-Paul has re-signed with the Bucs for a two-year deal worth $27 million, per Adam Schefter.
The Bucs have had Pierre-Paul for two seasons after trading a third and fourth round pick to the New York Giants for him in the 2018 offseason. Pierre-Paul had 12.5 sacks in his first year in Tampa Bay, becoming the first Buc to record double digit sacks in over a decade since Simeon Rice did so with 14 in 2005.
Pierre-Paul’s 2019 season was delayed after he fractured his vertebrae in a car accident in the offseason. But Pierre-Paul miraculously able to rehab the injury and come back midway through the year, notching 8.5 sacks in 10 games.
During his time with the Bucs, Pierre-Paul has recorded 85 tackles and 21 sacks with 25 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
As important as Pierre-Paul’s on the field play has been, his veteran leadership in the Bucs’ locker room has been just as important. Bringing a championship pedigree after winning Super Bowl XLVI with the Giants, Pierre-Paul can be seen often on the Bucs’ sideline providing motivation to his teammates.
By franchise tagging fellow outside linebacker and 2019 NFL sack leader, Shaq Barrett, the Bucs bring back a dynamic duo with Pierre-Paul and Barrett on the edge.
