Latest Bucs Headlines

At long last, the Bucs open their 2022 regular season on Sunday night, facing off with the Cowboys in Dallas.

It’s been a long, busy and downright crazy offseason for Tampa Bay. A few major retirements, an unretirement, a coaching change and quite a few big additions helped the Bucs stay in the news all spring and summer. So, getting back to football is sure to be a welcome sight.

As if there aren’t enough storylines to keep an eye on when the Bucs and Cowboys meet inside AT&T Stadium on Sunday Night Football, we have you covered with some records and milestones that are on the line. Which players have some history to make? Let’s get to it.

Tom Brady

On the home front, Brady is 10 completions away from passing Doug Williams (895) for sixth-most in franchise history. And while there aren’t many NFL records the 45-year-old doesn’t already own, he’s still chasing Peyton Manning for one of them. Brady needs one more fourth-quarter comeback to tie Manning (43) for the most in league history.

Leonard Fournette

The fact that Fournette, who is entering his third season with the Bucs and his second as the team’s full-time back, is nearing the top 10 in rushing touchdowns speaks more to the lack of running back history in Tampa Bay. Nonetheless, he needs one more rushing touchdown to tie Peyton Barber, Earnest Graham and Lars Tate (15) for 10th-most in team history.

With two more rushing touchdowns, Fournette ties Ricky Bell (16) for ninth-most, while four more rushing scores will tie him with Ronald Jones II (18) for eighth all time.

Mike Evans

Evans is the franchise leader in all of the major receiving categories, and last year, he unseated Mike Alstott for the most total touchdowns in Bucs history. Now, the ninth-year receiver has his sights set on the team’s all-time scrimmage yards record. He needs 139 more to pass James Wilder (9,449).

Evans is also climbing the points scored leaderboard, needing just 14 more points to pass Connor Barth (477) for third-most in Tampa Bay history.

Sunday will also mark Evans’ 122nd career start with the Bucs, which leaves him one behind Gerald McCoy (123) for ninth-most all-time.

Chris Godwin

Godwin’s status for Sunday night’s game against the Cowboys remains unclear, but if he does suit up, he could rise up the ranks in a couple of categories. He needs one more touchdown to tie Kevin House (31) for the sixth-most touchdowns from scrimmage in team history. He’s also chasing House (31) on the Bucs’ career receiving touchdowns list, needing just two more to tie for fourth on the all-time leaderboard.

Bucs Te Cam Brate

Cameron Brate

Brate’s place in franchise history is extremely interesting. His presence in the red zone is reflected by his place on the team’s all-time receiving touchdowns list. He needs just one more to tie Jimmie Giles (34) for second-most in team history. One more touchdown of any kind will also tie him with Giles (34) for fourth-most total touchdowns.

Lavonte David

It’s no secret that David is an all-time Buc. Sunday will mark his 150th career game with Tampa Bay, which will leave him eight behind Mike Alstott (158) for seventh-most all-time. It will also be David’s 150th career start, though he’ll still be 33 behind Paul Gruber (183) for third-most.

David hasn’t found the end zone since 2017, when he returned a fumble 21 yards for a touchdown in a 38-33 Week 5 loss to the Cardinals. But one more defensive touchdown ties the veteran linebacker with David Logan and Mike Washington (four) for third-most in franchise history.

Shaq Barrett

Barrett has been on a tear since joining the Bucs in 2019, posting 37.5 sacks in three seasons. He needs just two more to pass David Logan (39) for fifth-most in team history.

Ryan Succop

Succop has been in Tampa Bay for two years, but he already finds himself inside the franchise’s top 10 for points scored. He needs 10 more to pass James Wilder (276) for eighth-most all-time.
