Latest Bucs Headlines

The Bucs have seen their 3-1 record disappear in the last two weeks, and they now sit at 3-3 heading into a tough Thursday Night Football contest at the Bills in Week 8.

Tampa Bay’s lead in the NFC South is gone, as it now trails Atlanta by a half-game after Sunday’s 16-13 walk-off loss at Raymond James Stadium. So there’s plenty on the line for Todd Bowles and his team, who are looking to avoid falling below .500 for the first time this season.

The Bills have plenty on the line as well, as they’ve lost two of their last three games and trail the Dolphins in the AFC East by a game. Through seven weeks of the season, rarely has Buffalo looked like the same top contender it has been over the last few years.

As much as there is at stake in this game at Highmark Stadium on Thursday night, the Bucs also have several players with personal accolades and records they’re working toward. So as we do every week, we’ll take a look at some of those milestones either in play for this week or on the horizon.

Last week, Mike Evans tied Lance Alworth, Hines Ward and Paul Warfield (85) for 18th-most receiving touchdowns in NFL history while Chris Godwin became the second Buc to reach 6,000 receiving yards with the team (joining Evans). Will Gholston also passed Mike Alstott for the eighth-most games played in team history, and Shaq Barrett tied Hardy Nickerson (13) for the sixth-most forced fumbles in franchise history.

Now, let’s see where things stand heading into Week 8:

Mike Evans

Evans is now tied for the 18th-most receiving touchdowns in NFL history. With another one on Thursday night, he’ll tie Jimmy Graham (86) for 17th-most, while two more will tie him with Andre Reed (87) for 16th-most. Three receiving scores would tie him with Don Maynard (88) for 15th.

With 107 receiving yards against the Bills, Evans will become the first player in Bucs history to surpass 10,000 receiving yards in a career. He also stands 69 points away from passing Martin Gramatica (592) for the most points scored in team history.

Finally, Thursday night will be Evans’ 144th game, leaving him four behind Shelton Quarles (148) for 10th-most in franchise history.

Chris Godwin

Godwin still needs one more receiving touchdown to tie Cameron Brate (33) for third-most in franchise history, while two more will tie him with Jimmie Giles (34) for second.

A touchdown of any kind would be Godwin’s 34th touchdown from scrimmage, tying him with Giles (34) for the fourth-most in team history.

Will Gholston

With his 160th game as a Buc on Thursday night, Gholston will tie Tony Mayberry (160) for seventh-most in franchise history.

Calijah Kancey

Kancey has registered a quarterback hit in the first three games of his career, so with another against Buffalo, he’ll become the first Tampa Bay rookie since at least 2006 to tally a hit on the quarterback in the first four games of his career.

Shaq Barrett

Barrett now needs just 13 more sacks to pass Gerald McCoy (54.5) for fourth-most in Bucs history. And after last Sunday’s forced fumble, he is currently tied with Hardy Nickerson (13) for the sixth-most in Bucs history. One more would give him sole possession of the sixth-most, and two more would tie him with Ronde Barber and Warren Sapp (15) for fourth-most in team history.

Lavonte David

David is set for his 173rd game with the Bucs, leaving him 10 behind Paul Gruber (183) for fourth-most in franchise history. It’ll also be his 173rd start, which will also leave him 10 behind Gruber (183) for third-most.

With 2.5 more sacks, David will pass Brad Culpepper (33) for eighth-most in team history. He’s also four passes defensed away from passing Donnie Abraham (64) for fifth-most of any Buc ever.

Carlton Davis III

Davis is still looking to chip away at the gap between him and Derrick Brooks (84), who has the third-most passes defensed in team history. He needs 18 more to pass the legendary Brooks.

Jamel Dean

Dean still needs just one pass defensed to tie John Lynch (42) for eighth-most in franchise history.
