Latest Bucs Headlines

In what will be their third of four road games over a five-week span, the 7-6 Bucs will be looking to keep it rolling on Sunday afternoon when they meet the 8-5 Chargers at SoFi Stadium.

Tampa Bay took over first place in the NFC South last week with a win over Las Vegas and Atlanta’s loss to Minnesota. Now, Todd Bowles and his team control their own destiny on their quest toward a division title four-peat and a fifth straight playoff appearance. The Bucs just have to match — or better — the Falcons’ record over the final four weeks in order to win the division and earn a home playoff game on Super Wild Card Weekend.

But after winning three straight games over teams with a combined seven wins, Tampa Bay will be facing its toughest remaining test of the stretch run. Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers have eight wins and are well positioned to make the playoffs as one of three wild card teams in the AFC.

So, both of these potential playoff teams have a lot riding on this Sunday’s game.

As usual, there are other storylines to follow in this Week 15 game out west, and that’s the reason we’re here right now. As we do every week here on PewterReport.com, it’s now time to take a look at what else is on the line during this week’s game. Of course, we’re talking about some of the records and milestones that some Bucs are moving toward.

Last week, Mike Evans tied John Lynch for seventh-most games played in franchise history while Baker Mayfield tied Jameis Winston (2019) for 3rd-most single-season offensive touchdowns in team history.

Plus, Rachaad White passed Warrick Dunn and James Wilder for 2nd-most receiving touchdowns by a running back in Bucs history, Cade Otton passed Calvin Magee for 9th-most receiving yards by a tight end in franchise history and Lavonte David recovered his 19th career fumble, which is the most among all players since he entered the league in 2012.

Now, here’s where everything stands heading into Week 15:

Baker Mayfield

Mayfield needs one passing touchdown to pass himself (28 in 2023) and Jameis Winston (28 in 2016) for sole possession of fourth-most single-season passing touchdowns in franchise history.

With one more rushing touchdown, Mayfield will tie Doug Williams (four in 1980, four in 1981) and Josh Freeman (4 in 2011) for 4th-most single season rushing touchdowns by a Bucs quarterback.

A 3+ passing touchdown day would tie Mayfield with Tom Brady (seven in 2020) for 2nd-most such games in a single season in team history.

Three total scores would also tie Mayfield with Jameis Winston (34 in 2019) for 3rd-most single-season offensive touchdowns in Bucs history.

Mayfield is five passing touchdowns away from tying Jameis Winston (33 in 2019) for third-most single-season passing scores in team history. He is also five passing touchdowns away from tying Steve DeBerg (61) for eighth-most in franchise history.

Mike Evans

Evans is set to play his 165th game as a Buc, passing John Lynch (164) for seventh-most all-time. He will next chase longtime teammate Will Gholston, who has played 182 games and counting for Tampa Bay.

Evans is 18 receiving yards away from passing Jimmy Smith (12,287) for 26th-most in NFL history. He needs 22 more yards to pass former teammate Antonio Brown (12,291) for 25th-most.

With four more receptions, Evans will pass Roddy White (808) for 40th-most in league history.

Evans is three total touchdowns away from tying Tim Brown and Don Hutson (105) for 21st-most in NFL history.

You can catch up on Evans’ progress toward an NFL-record-tying 11th straight 1,000-yard receiving season here.

Rachaad White

White is two total touchdowns away from tying Leonard Fournette and Reggie Cobb (22) for seventh-most touchdowns from scrimmage by a running back in team history.

White also needs 30 more receiving yards to pass Charles Sims (1,190) for sixth-most by a running back in Buccaneer history.

Bucky Irving

Irving needs one rushing touchdown to tie Errict Rhett and Lars Tate (seven) for second-most by a rookie running back in Bucs history.

The rookie also needs 17 yards from scrimmage to pass Mike Evans (1,051 in 2014) for 6th-most by a rookie in franchise history. With 96 more yards, he’ll pass Errict Rhett (1,130) for 5th-most.

You can catch up on Irving’ progress toward becoming the Bucs’ first 1,000-yard rusher since Doug Martin in 2015 here.

Cade Otton

Otton is one reception away from passing Cameron Brate (57 in 2016) for fifth-most single-season receptions by a Buccaneer tight end. With six receptions, he’ll pass Jackie Harris (62 in 1995) for fourth-most. And with 10 receptions, he’ll pass Kellen Winslow (66 in 2010) for third-most.

Otton also needs four more receiving yards to pass Rob Gronkowski (1,425) for eighth-most by a tight end in franchise history.

Will Gholston

Gholston is set to play his 183rd game with the Bucs, which will tie him with Paul Gruber (183) for fifth-most in team history.

Vita Vea

Vea is four sacks away from passing Jason Pierre-Paul and Brad Culpepper (33.0) for ninth-most in Tampa Bay history.

Lavonte David

David will play in his 195th game as a Buc on Sunday, which is third-most in team history. He only trails Derrick Brooks (224) and Ronde Barber (241).

David had a sack in last week’s win over the Raiders, which means he now needs two more to pass David Logan (39.0) for sixth-most in franchise history. He is also three sacks away from tying his single-season career high (7.0 in 2013).

With five more passes defensed, David will pass Carlton Davis III (73) for fourth-most in team history.

Jamel Dean

Dean is six passes defensed away from passing Aqib Talib (54) for seventh-most in Bucs history.
