In a week full of good news, Bucs fans have something else to be excited about. According to The Athletic’s Greg Auman, the Bucs have restructured the contract of star wide receiver Mike Evans. The move will clear addition cap space as the Bucs convert some of Evans’ base salary to bonuses. Evans has just two years remaining on his deal, so an extension could be on the table in the future too.
Bucs are again restructuring receiver Mike Evans’ contract to free up additional cap space. Some of his $14 million base salary for 2022 converted to bonus as they work to re-sign more of his teammates. He’s done this several times on his current deal already.

In Evans’ eight seasons in the league, he’s missed just seven total games and never more than three in a season. He’s also topped the 1,000-yard mark in all eight seasons, a league record. Finally, Evans’ 75 career receiving touchdowns is the most of any player since he entered the league in 2014.
Perhaps no receiver in the NFL has modeled consistency and durability like Evans. He’s also an outstanding captain and a staple of the community. Easily the best offensive player in Bucs history (considering longevity), Evans is well on his way to the Hall of Fame. This restructure will open the door for Tampa Bay to re-sign several other key players. Free agents DT Ndamukong Suh, TE Rob Gronkowski, DT Will Gholston and RB Leonard Fournette are still un-signed. The Bucs could also choose to sign additional outside free agents.
The Bucs roster has more question marks than it did a year ago, but there is certainty at wide receiver now. And soon, there will be more certainty at other positions too.
