The Bucs started off the 2024 preseason with a hard-fought 17-14 win over the Bengals in Cincinnati. Tampa Bay rested most of its starters while Cincinnati played most of its starters briefly in the first quarter, including quarterback Joe Burrow.
The Bucs victory was fueled by its rushing attack, which has been a point of emphasis for new offensive coordinator Liam Coen. Rookie running back Bucky Irving kicked off the scoring with a touchdown on Tampa Bay’s second drive while rookie Ramon Jefferson ran three yards for the game-winner with less than two minutes left. Sean Tucker led the way with 68 yards on 10 carries as the team piled up 136 yards on the ground and totaled 390 yards in Coen’s debut as a play-caller.
