A big safety at 6-1, 200 pounds, Warner followed in his brother’s footsteps at BYU for five years. Warner finished his Cougars career with 120 tackles and two interceptions. During the preseason, Warner allowed just one catch for six yards in 67 defensive snaps, per PFF. He also added five tackles, but missed two stops.

Warner will join veteran Andrew Adams as safeties on the Bucs practice squad. The 23-year old impressed on special teams for the Rams during the preseason, and could find a role there for the Bucs. Tampa Bay currently had four safeties on their active roster in Antoine Winfield Jr., Jordan Whitehead, Mike Edwards and Chris Cooper, but the latter could be waived soon. The Bucs have four players coming off the COVID list and will need space on the active roster.
The signing of Warner brings the Bucs practice squad to 15 players. It is presumed that the remaining slot will be left open for K Jose Borregales. Tampa Bay could also make further roster moves to shake up the practice squad, especially as additional players are released in coming days.
