The Bucs were busy signings cornerbacks on Thursday. After the announcement that they had signed Kemon Hall, Tampa Bay then signed former 49ers corner Chase Lucas to the roster, per his agent Jamal Tooson. That’s two veteran corners that the Bucs have brought in just two weeks before the draft.

Overview Of Newest Bucs CB

Chase Lucas played his college football at Arizona State and was taken in the seventh round by the Lions in 2022 NFL Draft. He spent two years in Detroit, then spent the last two seasons with 49ers before signing to Tampa Bay. Lucas has played in 33 games, including 15 last year with San Francisco, and has played in four postseason games. With that said, none of those has been starts. He has yet to record an interception and has 15 career tackles and one pass breakup.

Playing 204 special teams snaps a season ago, that’s the fastest way he’ll have a chance to make the roster. While the Bucs don’t have much from a depth standpoint at corner, it’s no guarantee that Lucas makes the team.

Depth Of Bucs’ CB Room

Tampa Bay has a lot of questions at corner going into the 2026 season. Zyon McCollum and Benjamin Morrison are the starters on paper, but neither are coming into with momentum. McCollum struggled heavily, while injuries kept Morrison limited and slowed down his NFL development.

The player that had the best year was Jacob Parrish, who was drafted one round after Morrison. He made splash plays at nickel corner, but also proved he can play on the outside if needed due to the unavailability of other players.

So while the Bucs have an immediate backup at outside corner in Parrish, that’s about it. This shouldn’t stop Tampa Bay from signing another veteran with legitimate starting experience or drafting one in a couple of weeks. Lucas and Hall will compete in training camp and could make the roster through special teams. Some Depth has been addressed, but more needs to be done by the start of the season.
