Cooper fills the Bucs open roster spot after the team placed veteran Curtis Riley on IR. With the news of Jordan Whitehead starting camp on the COVID/Reserve list and the aforementioned move with Riley , the Bucs found their safety room thinner than they’d like. Cooper was spotted on the practice filed this morning before the initial announcement of his signing was made. He will wear number 39 for the defending Super Bowl champs.
Cooper, entered the league in 2018, has not appeared in a regular-season game but had also spent time on the practice squads of the Bengals, Chiefs and Falcons. After joining the Broncos in october, he signed a reserve/futures deal with the club in January. He was waived in early June after the team spent significant resources in the secondary.
Cooper is the second Stony Brook safety on the roster joining rookie Augie Contressa. He played at safety for the Seawolves and recorded 127 tackles and four interceptions during his time there.
